Rolling Lock...???

Ok, I've read the material on the REKAT site, I've searched the various forums and read and read. I must be dense cuz I still don't understand how this lock functions.

"To unlock the blade, the Rolling Lock™ is simply rotated via the slide bar allowing the knife to be closed."
So how does the lock engage when the blade is closed and I open it? Do I have to fold the blade open and then use the slide bar to rotate the lock? Is the blade locked in the closed position as well? Meaning do I have to unlock it to open the blade then lock it once open and do the same in reverse to close?
Like I said, I'm not "getting it"

Well I'm no expert, but I'll get the ball rolling. I have had an Escalator trainer on loan for a week or two so I'll describe the function of the RL to you.

You do not need to touch the slide bar to open the knife. It is spring loaded and will lock automatically when the blade is fully opened. When the knife is closed the slide bar is in the forward most position. There is some tension which holds the blade in the handle much like a ball detent. When you start to open the knife, the slide bar moves to the rear most position until the knife reaches the fully open position. At this point the slide bar slides to the forward most position as the rolling lock locks the blade.

As I said before you do not need to touch the slide bar to open the knife. It is under spring tension which allows it to lock up automatically.

To close the knife, you move the slide bar to the rear most position and close the knife. When the blade is fully in the handle, the slide bar automatically slides to the forward position due to spring tension. The blade is actually pulled into the handle by the spring tension right before it is fully closed.

I hope this helps. Others more qualified will hopefully respond.
