Built the mill from Mel McDonald's plans except made a few changes thank's to the help of Reg Ellery, Thanks for the pics they helped allot. I only got to use the mill for a couple days before I delivered it to my Uncle in Idaho.

He loves it and says that it saves a bunch of time.He also uses it to put his distal taper in.

I'm in the process of building another one right now.

Hey Tony Glad to hear your mill is up and running. Thanks for the kind words.

Just a note of caution. I am currently using Thomas Gerners mill it was one of the two proto types built buy Jim Steele many moons ago.

One of the pullys has the clamping center hub. I did not notice it was loose and assumed the belts were slipping. I let it spin on the shaft a while and it has rubbed the inside of the pully away. The center hub of the pully has a key way cut in but no keyway was cut into the shaft. I took the shaft to get a keyway cut and a new center for the pully. Going to cost about $40. If you have that kind of pulley on your plans it may pay to get the key way in.

It is the type of pully with 3 grub screw holes 2 for holding tight
and 1 for breaking the seal. When I had Jims machine I never had a problem. it was done up tight. I drove 400 kilometers to pick up Thomas's mill it may have vibrated loose. Have your uncle check the grub screw once in a while if no key way.

The mill has worked well for at least 7 years, without problem so don't be put off. If I had done 15 min of maintanance after the trip it probably would have gone on working indefinatley.

I have deleted quite a few email addresses from the mail list due to worms and such latley. If you want to send me a message I can take a pic of the shaft that caused the problem. It is the one with the cogs leading to the main roller. Not the main roller the other shaft that is attached by the chain. It was meant to be repaired today but the guy did not call for me to pic it up.

Again good to hear you are having success with your new machine.
