I got a roll on the edge of my Basic 4 it was my fault I dropped it. I just wanted to know the best way to fix it. I used a steel and its better but still not right. Do I need to sharpen it? I dont want to turn the roll into a chip because the metal is still there its just pushed up. Thanks for the help.

I never steel out rolls. I figure if it rolls than its too thin so I will sharpen it back to a stronger angle.

The steel put most of it back in place it just has a small dent now Im sure it would sharpen out in a session or two. Was just wondering if there was a way to fix rolls. The 1095 Im more familiar with would probably have chipped not rolled.

Right, I forgot you dropped it on concrete. My fault.

I would still sharpen it out. I don't like damaged goods :-p

Yes I did! It held up very well to that error on my part :) This is an Anorexic B4 as well so thin edge vrs concrete the Busse came out great

Thin edges and concrete never mix no matter the steel. Don't worry I am not one of those silly busse haters ;)

I would sharpen it out. Dont feel bad i dropped a 460 on its tip on concrete. It only chipped to the grind line. I touched it up and it is as good as new with only a few min of work.

With infi I'd say steel it out if you want a working edge, but if you want a razor edge sharpening it out is the only way to go.

Actually this gets into one of my favorite things about INFI which is that you're probably never, I certainly never have, going to chip a damaged edge by steeling it out. Once you've realigned the edge its basically as good as new. Its one of those small miracles of INFI that other steels (ok find your POS soft kitchen knives will do this too, but they're useless for cutting anything anyway) just can't do. If you steel it back you're not removing any material anyway, so a few seconds of trying and if you don't like it drop it on the sharpener. :D This is one of my survival tricks though since it much easier when you're in the middle of nowhere to steel the edge of one of your Busses against the spine of another knife rather than trying to find a pebble to sharpen the damn thing on. YMMV Not to come here and stir up anything by contradicting the conventional wisdom, I'd just try the faster no-harm-done technique first. ;)

If Im trying to steel a roll out do I do it away from the edge like a strop or towards it like a stone?

I'm for steeling it out, that's one of the benfits of Infi.

One thing, you don't want to use a standard steel with the grooves,
it can tear the steel.

A lot of people use the shaft of a great big screwdriver because it is smooth.

I just steel it back into place as much as I can, then sharpen like normal.

Never had any problems.

Anyone else read the title and picture a fat Busse getting stuffed into a thin sheath making an infi muffin top?

No, I just pictured a knife doing dog tricks. :p

The steeling action is like stropping, but it takes quite a bit of elbow grease to accomplish. Once that is successfully done, you can decide if you want to go further or not. Small serrations can be helpful on a non-shaving/non-paper slicing user, but an anorexic B4 may not fall into that realm. You could also put in a micro bevel to strengthen the edge a bit without removing much metal while removing the damaged area.

Steel it in the direction you want the edge roll to travel in. Think of it as clay or silly putty and how you would shape that.

So in most cases of a roll I believe that would be spine to edge movements
