Excuse me while I pick my jaw up off the floor!
All I could say was Wow Wow Wow what a fantastic blade!
Truly an artist

Now that's a well-executed art knife. It actually looks useable. :D I have to go look up this guys work.

It can be difficult to find Ray and Ron Appleton's work. Here's another knife Ron did, in this case with Ed Fowler (it's the lower of the two knives).

One of the fun things about working with the Appletons is that they are willing to try stuff that's a little out of the ordinary. In this case, I asked Ron to embed a transponder into the knife handle so I could use it as my card key:

Please excuse the quality of this second image - it in no way reflects on the quality of their work.

You can find images of the Appleton's work in Dr. David Darom's book - Art and Design in Modern Custom Folding Knives.

Here's an image similar to one in the book showing three knives, Little Wing, Diamondhead, and Makau.

Gabe, I would love to one day get to see your collection. The knives that I have seen of yours are absolutely outstanding. This is one of the nicest. I think Ray's knives are incredibly clean and their lines flow better than pretty well any other knife I have seen.

yes, his knives are very nice..........

and very complex..........

His primary tool for making them is an EDM machine.

I was fine with my pic until Gabe posted these most excellent pics taken for the ADCFK book by Dr. Darom. Now I'm going back to the drawing board...:( NEVER give up! :D

Gabe, give us the skinny on that crazy lock and the tool to unlatch it on your latest.

Gabe, you have an amazing collection. You might find it interesting to see this old thread on when that Appleton/Fowler knife was first shown here. The pictures are gone from the thread, but it's still a great story.

Take a look.

In terms of specifications, the handle and blade are made of D-2, the buttons are 416 stainless, and the screw and spring are titanium. The knife weighs 3.1 oz, overall length is 6-3/4", and the blade is 2-3/4". The locking mechanism is Ron's Lower IQ.

Has to be my favorite Appleton knife. I really like the way the lock and the inlay play off each other. Nice photo!
