Ron Best art folder, easily convertible to a non-auto lockback with a provided tool. All carving by hand, using only hammer, chisels, files and sandpaper. No CNC at work here.

This is Ron's latest model offering, with only two of this model having been made so far. This is the latest one, with frame of mirror polished and stippled 416 stainless.

Inlays of 14K gold, TNT Damasteel, kambaba jasper and Mary Ellen jasper with Bjorkman twist Damasteel blade, HUGE overall length 10 1/4", with 4 1/2+" blade.

Ron is a two time winner of the prestigious W.W. Cronk Award (2007 and 2008).

this yours, Bob?

Man, that thing is intense! Love that jasper. What a blinding amount of skill is apparent there.

Yes, Lorien, it's mine. I was pleasantly surprised when I realized that, despite my deteriorated vision, I was able to pick up pretty much all of the detail on this piece.

there's a lot to appreciate about that knife, Bob. Congratulations!

Bob, you have a collection that can only be described as "class". This knife just adds to it in a special way. A real beauty and I like the convertible aspect of the mechanism

Bob -- Ron does incredible knives and this time has simply outdone himself. Congratulations on acquiring such a wonderful knife. It is a true work of ART!!

You already know how much I like it Bob... Now try and hang onto it for awhile! :D Best, Rich Slaughter

I love it, but was surprised to see Bob post it, since I know he generally does not like Damascus. However, IMO, this knife would not nearly be as nice without Damascus.

Nice acquisition.

Great thread. I'm a Ron Best fanboi, and he's an SBC supporter. Win/win.

Bob chose well. This dual grind shape is especially attractive. Ron's usage of materials and carving just gets better and more refined with every knife.

The opening button is the little tang on the backspine. It's an acquired feel, and no one does this (that I have seen) but him. Signature workings.

Congratulations!

As a general rule, I prefer not to own Damascus, Ken, except for stainless. There are exceptions to my rule. Actually, Rich Slaughter owns my very favorite piece of Damascus, a keyhole NYS by Ron Newton, which I was foolish to part with. I still kick myself whenever I think about it.
