Ron Leuschen (Little Hen Knives) phoned me on Wednesday from Canada to find out if my knife had been delivered. It hadn't but on Thursday I had a card in my mailbox stating a package from Canada was undeliverable (I wasn't home) & could be picked up at the Post Office in town on Friday! Needless to say, I was the first person in line when the doors were opened on Friday!
The knife is "beautiful","damn sharp" & has its' own hand-formed pouch sheath that Ron makes himself. The knife slides into the sheath with a 'click' holding it securely. I've held the sheath & knife upside down & couldn't jostle the knife loose. At least I know I won't lose this knife because it fell out of the sheath. I phoned Ron tonight to let him know the knife arrived & praised his craftsmanship. I'm not sure, but if I could see Ron on the other end of the phone, I believe he was 'blushing' from the praise I heaped on him!
I can't post any pictures at present but here are the specs:

OAL: 7.5" Forged O-1 Blade Length: 3.2"
Guard: Copper End Cap: Copper
Handle: Stabilized Birch Burl with 2 golden Rams Horn inserts, black
& white spacers & 2 mosaic pins of Ron's creation.

RifRaf, if your out there, this knife is very similiar to your "Recurve Hunter" with extra copper & inserts incorporated into the handle. Again, I thank you for steering me in Little Hen Knives direction.

I'm impressed with Ron's communication as well as his craftsmanship & plan on purchasing another knife from him in the future - hopefully one of Ron's Damascus blades.

Gary, lol yes you are right you had me blushing :o, I just didn`t know what to say..even if I did, I couldn`t get a word in anyways...I could tell you were ecstatic!
Thanks for the great words, and I`m happy, you`re happy....I aim to please:D

I have absolutely no trouble believing that this knife is every bit as good as you say it is. The knife that Ron made for me is fantastic. Just like yours, mine came real sharp. It is nice to see a Canadian maker making a name for himself.

Ron: What are you doing up so late? I thought my chatter would have put you to sleep! Thanks, again & have a good one.

Keith: Ron should have no problem making a name for himself - he makes a fine product!

shootist16: I don't have a scanner or digital camera + I'm computer illiterate, but I'm working on it. RifRaf posted a picture in a thread I started on 5/26/02 - 'From idea to finished knife' which got me interested in Little Hen Knives. My knife is very similiar to RifRaf's (I loved the look of the copper). Just apply my knife's specs to his pix & you will have a good idea of its' appearance.

Clydetz,

Glad to hear you like your knife . Ron is a great guy . I think mine and his phone bills are going to get out of control . I have him working on a mild recurve hunter in Basket Weave Danascus as we type . I can't wait to get it finished . I will post pics of the blade later . Enjoy your knife . The integral Ron made for me has become my EDC . I hated to scratch it up but it just begged to be used . :)

Jerry

Jerry,
I saw some examples of the 'basket weave' Damascus pattern - can't wait to see your finished knife pix. Glad to hear from you!

Clydetz: You are most welcome! It's easy to endorse someone like Ron...isn't he a great guy to work with!

Is this similar to the knife Ron made for you?

Let's Try for that photo once more.

RifRaf: How you doing? Ron is such a great guy to work with (not a bad knifemaker, either, eh?) that I'm going to place an order in the future for a damascus blade.
How was the vacation? I finally ordered a digital camera so I'll see what I can do about some knife pixs - I'll need some practice!

RifRaf:

That's the knife that started it! I asked Ron for 2 mosaic pins & double up on the copper & spacers. Guard & end cap of copper with 2 spacers of golden rams horn on stabilized birch burl - his choice!

The Alaskan vacation passed way too quickly.

We had the benefit of 21-22 hours of useable daylight and we used every one of them. We rarely slept more than 3-4 hours out of every 24. Sleeping in less than total darkness was no problem given our routine: Up around 6:00 A.M. fish until 2:00 A.M. collapse and start the routine over again taking only enough time to eat or drive to the next river/stream.

The first day home, I slept 12 hours straight. I haven't done that since I was a teenager(more than 3 decades ago). It took me several more days to really to feel rested.
Fishing was great, scenery was incomparable and the company was pretty good too! (My brother and his son). We're already planning a return trip.

Your version of Ron's Recurve Hunter sounds beautiful. I'd love to see a picture. Do you know anyone that has a flatbed Scaner? If so, have them scan the knife, e-mail the file to me and I'll post it for all to enjoy.

Hey guys, c`mon now your making me blush :o...lol thanks for all the great words!
Richard, glad you had a great time fishin, that sure sounds like a bunch of fun. Someday, maybe I`ll get out to Alaska, or the Yukon for an archery moose or Elk Hunt!

Thanks again guys, you were not too bad to deal with also! :p

RifRaf:
That trip to Alaska sounds like something everyone needs to relieve everyday stress! I'll keep the offer to post a scanned pix in mind when I visit my sister (& her scanner) this weekend. Thanks!

Ron:
I'll keep in touch & don't forget to post a pix of your latest finished knife -- take care!
