Here is a fantastic D-Guard I picked up from Ron at the Boston Art Knife Classic. Engraved by Gil Rudolph and as usual dressed up my Mr. Paul Long. Chuck Ward photo's really bring out the details in both photo's. The ladder pattern is some of the best executed I have seen. This one is pretty darn big but light as a feather.

12" damascus steel clip point bowie blade, 15" overall
Hand forged with a traditional tight ladder pattern of 1095 high carbon and Swedish 15N20 steel. The beautiful multi cream coloured walrus ivory handle is surrounded by a 410 stainless steel D guard and ferrule spacer engraved and 24 carat gold inlaid by Gil Rudolph.

I am really pleased to have a Ron Newton back in my collection.

That's a real beauty....the Damascus and that engraving are stunning!

Paul didn 't do too bad either....;)

Jon, you know my tastes don't run to D-guards, but I had to comment. I could never imagine you without a Ron Newton in your collection.

If I were to jump into ABS knives one day, probably the first four makers I would buy would be David Broadwell (the best maker of subhilts - IMHO), Bruce Bump, Ron Newton and Josh Smith (alphabetically ordered).

That's a really impressive piece. Ron is one of the makers who does a really BIG bowie very, very well. This is a fine example.

When I saw this one on Chuck's flickr site, I wondered if it might be yours as well as the Mike Ruth knife. I too, am not a big fan of D-guards but have never seen a knife by Ron that I didn't like. :)Kind of hard to go wrong with his work. A very nice addition to any collection.

WOW! That is an absolutely beautiful knife Jon. Gil Rudolf is EXtremely good and Paul Long's sheath as as always..exquisite.

That blade shape and damascus pattern are awesome too!

Jon, if you were a personal shopper in the realm of knives I'd have no worries handing you a stack of Benjamins and sitting back to see what you purchased for me :D
