Here is another one from Ron Newton for the Arkansas Knifemakers Association show this weekend in Little Rock.

Turkish twist Damascus and white pearl scales with a very cool black-lip pearl inlay.

It comes with a Paul Long sheath made of cowhide with a lizard inlay which matches the pattern of the black-lip pearl inlay.

I am sure that Ron will be along soon to explain how he did this, because I still don't understand it!

Anyway . . . I hope that you enjoy it.

Thanks Ken for posting.

This is an all integral piece I geared up to put in the "Best pearl Knife" award categroy at the Arkansas show this weekend. It's got a 5 bar Turkish twist blade that's 5-1/8" long with an overall of 9-3/4".

The spiral inlay challenged me immensely and added grey hairs to my head for sure. The most difficult inlay I've ever done. I thought the black lip pearl really dressed up the colorful white pearl. Coin gold pins attach the inlayed scales. There's quite a bit of shimmer in the steel.

The hardest thing about the inlaying is that my handmade plastic and epoxy pantograph patterns were very sensitive to temperature changes and the spiral tips actually would get cold on some days and shrink and coil up tighter, then the spiral tips woiuld heat up and expand to a larger spiral on warmer days. :grumpy: Never again is all I can say.

freakishly amazing skills on display here Mr. Newton! I am absolutely in awe.

The design is very similar to a Jerry Rados design that I saw many years ago, but very contemporary, and of course that handle is just amazing.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

AWESOME, is the only way I can describe that pearler. Sorry for the pun, Australian slang ( Pearler, something exceptional or superlative )
Cheers Keith

One of the best knives I have seen this year - just stunning in every respect. The pearl inlay is incredible.

Absolutely stunning Ron. Great companion sheath Paul... an amazing package!

I heard that this pearl handled knife has won the "best pearl knife" award at the Arkansas show.
Congratulations to Mr Ron Newton.Congrats and thanks to the Virginian for having this wonderful knife and for posting it for our viewing pleasure. He must be even more thrilled now that his knife has won this award.

Most excellent - congrats Ron! Thanks for the update. I'm sure this gives Ken one more reason to enjoy his new knife, not that he needed one!
