Hiya Ron!

Just would like to know what is the substance that is coated on the SEAL/SEAL Pup and Tigershark models? Funny thing about the color description, is that the product brochure had it down as black, when in fact it is a sort of metallic gray.

Also, what can be done to patch up the worn finish. Any off the shelf solutions?

Hi Krizzard,

The coating is called the "gray powder coating" and is proprietary-based.

Regarding touching it up, there is nothing we can do here at the factory and since it is applied through a heat process to the whole blade, I can't think of an adequate "patch." Most I've talked with are not concerned about their "hard work knife" having some of the coating rubbed off.

Hello,
I have a very hard used Seal 2000 where most of the tip half of the blade has the coating rubbed off. The "powder" must impart something deeper into the steel, because it still exhibits the same rust resistant quailities as it did on day one. (Which means I never have had a problem with rust :D)
