Hey folks.. here is a Rondel dagger. These daggers were used as side arms by the knightly class in the late middle ages and were often carried into battle as a back-up weapon and were intended to be armor piercing weapons. They eventually made their way into the fashion scene of folks other than the knight. Mine has a 11 3/4" blade composed of heavily etched antique wrought iron, scrap band saw blade steel, home made shear steel and W2. The total length is 17 1/4". The guard and pommel are from my usual antique wrought iron stash and the handle is composed of amboyna scales spaced by ironwood (Thanks again to Mark Farley!). There are also linen braid wraps that are 'stabilized' with a home made pine resin 'shellac'. The blade is very thin and lively... 3/16" at the guard with much distal taper. Hollow ground bevels.

that is a very fine looking piece, Scott.

WOW Scott!
Beautiful Dagger.
It is getting so we never know what to expect from you.
But you never disappoint us.
Thank You for posting the great photos.

Thank you folks...

I'm all ate up with the Age of Chivalry right now. :-)

I hate apologizing after the fact... but I do apologize for the mediocre pictures. This knife deserves better... but I'm moving to a new house and shop, building new tools, teaching a knife making class, and still dealing with water drainage issues.... I'm about to pull all my hair out!

Another nice one Scott!I'm loving these renditions of Middle Age weapns you've been doing lately. What's next,a mace pehaps:D!

Well I do have a Germanic warhammer with wrought body and damascus head that I may or may never finish.... It's one of those projects that sits and stares at me.

Very lovely. Historic knives, swords are my favorite! (war hammers too now...waiting!)

The guard, pommel and handle are just fantastic!

Thanks a lot folks!

Storm... Rondels do indeed have a rep for being ugly... and for the most part they deserve it.. :-)

Dryhands.... the pine resin mix is pretty similar to shellac minus the bug parts. I haven't tested in real hard yet... so I'm not sure if I would use it on a bushcrafter right now.. but it seemed fitting for this knife. I'm going to use it on my own wrapped bush knife and see how it works wet....
