Ron's Video Info Helped Me While Skiing in VT

I had just been watching Ron's trapping and primitive weapons videos this past week again.

Well, the info in them came in handy this past weekend. While skiing in Vermont, I had an opportunity to use the info to help me out in a jam on the slopes (no I didn't build a Viet Cong crossbow to remove slow skiiers from my path or trap rude, punk-a** snowboarders in snares. I'll try that next trip.

)

I was skiing on boots that are little too old, in minus 25 degree weather (with wind chill), and all the buckles on my left boot froze and broke. Hard to control a ski with a boot that wants to fly off your foot.

Using a little paracord that I had, I fashioned a double loop knot. It was almost exactly the one Ron shows in the trapping video for lashing the branch snare engine to a tree. It worked perfectly as an emergency strap/buckle, but I needed more reinforcement around the rest of the boot for a snug fit. I diced up my leather belt and double-twisted several pieces of cordage from the strips, and tied them above and below. (While doing this, I was getting really funny stares from passing skiiers.) Anyway,

VOILA!

I continued skiing without a problem for the rest of the trip.

The techniques Ron showed were first and foremost in my mind because I had rewatched the videos, and they were the absolutely perfect solution!

Just thought it might be interesting to the forum members.

Peace,

Brian.

Thanks Brian!

The real credit goes to you for being able to innovate, for seeing "outside the box". A hearty congratulations on saving your ski trip...

Ron;
it looks like you and Karen are influencing more people on this planet, than possibly God himself!!!

And the best he did was the sermon on the mount.

Thanks Ron -- and of course, you too Karen!

I continue to be really impressed with how you both have set up the info in your videos: principles are first, with techniques to support them. It's almost subliminal how it sinks into the subconscious and gets absorbed! It makes it easy for one to apply this stuff out of the box. The way you constantly encourage critical thinking and evaluation skills in the viewer, it almost happens automatically.

Karen, the Cave Cooking videos are a perfect companion to the Woodsmaster series -- really rounds out the info and reinforces it. Ron's now got major competition in the "hosting talent" area.

Next videos should have both of you together co-narrating. But who'll work the camera? I can think of a volunteer...<raising hand>

I'm gonna hafta rewatch to see if you guys are using NLP or something to anchor this stuff into the brain.

Relax, STIHL,

I do some of that myself...ran into a few who were being punk-a**ed and rude, and was talking about those individuals only, and even then it was a joke. Most snowboarders are cool...
