So what is the best way to go about putting points back on all these knives that now have sharp edges but blunt points? (I may like having a "tanto tipped" kukri, tho)
This is just my observation, but it seems like the tip gets rounded off when you move the tip too far into the belt. Try grinding again but lift the tip off the belt at the edge of the belt instead of moving it deeper into the middle.
if you are sharpening the blade, watch for the burr to form and when you see it reach the tip, stop and lift the blade off the belt. like noctis said, you are going too far around the tip. you can also do the same thing if you go off the edge of the belt.
are any of your knives folders? i would hold off on taking any off the spine until you get the tip fixed. if you want some help i'll be glad to give you a call.
Thanks, Richard, I may take you up on that.
I'm thinking about setting up my belt sander to be at a 15 degree angle so I can just hold the blade level to sharpen and be able to pay more attention to technique and less on worrying about angle control.
