I have been given the task of replacing the handles on a Gerber fixed blade knife. The handles are affixed by what looks like some kind of threaded bolt that may have had the tool insert(hex, phillips head, etc...)filed off(I am not 100% on this). I am pretty sure that they are not standard pins because they are a stainless steel material. I am not sure of the model, it is at least 8 years old and has about a 5 inch blade with a 5 inch handle. The scales presently on this knife are a rubberized material. My question, how do you remove these scales. I was thinking of cutting a notch into the material and remove them by means of just unscrewing them. This of course will only work if they are indeed threaded. I have limited knife making experience, mostly just replacing handles and putting together the occasional kit, so please keep your input as simple as possible. If anyone has some idea, all comments and suggestions are welcome. Thanks
