Ok, I've been looking at the Rookie and I'm very tempted to get one. I already have an Endura but the Rookie seems to have some advantages. I want the G-10 scales, and is that a bigger thumb hole on the Rookie?

What else is better about the rookie? The pivot pin looks different. Is it adjustable?

Finally, was the rookie discontinued? Where's the best place to get a good deal on one if that is the case?

I have a G10 Rookie and a Zytel Delica. The rookie fits the same length blade as the Delica into a smaller, slimmer, but heavier handle. Your Endura is much bigger by comparison. I don't have the Rookie with me, but I suspect the hole is the same or smaller than the Delica, because the Rookie blade has a less prominent hump. Due to that, the Rookie blade looks a lot smaller than Delica, but cutting length is the same.

The feel is completely different. Zytel Spydercos are great knives, but the G10 handles feel so much stronger & sturdier than the Zytel. The Rookie also has one side steel liner, making it even beefier. You won't be disappointed with the quality of the Rookie, but it's much smaller than the Endura.

The now discontinued G10 Rookie, fully serrated, can still be had at a great price ($39.99) from Smoky Mountain at 800-251-9306. Part # is SPC51GS.

They also have some of the discontinued "Standard", which is like a beefed up Delica, with G10 handles. Folks on the forums say they are rock solid knives. Also at a huge discount - $42.99 Part # is SPC05GS.

An Endura and a Rookie are the two knives I carry almost everyday. The Rookie is a great knife, a smaller version of the Police model is the description I read somewhere in this forum. I ordered both my Rookies from SMKW, one in plain edge and one serrated, at resonable prices.

I got a Rookie and a Standard from SMKW and I recommend both. You don't get much better than the G10 handles IMHO, and they are rock solid knives. At those prices, you can't go wrong.
