Hello,
I have been looking for some time for the official rigging knife of the german marine, bundesmarine.
Now here is what I got, some nearly new, nice rugged ropeknives with a strong, locking marlin spike, strong blade (3,7mm), polycarbonate slaps, really strong brass liners.
Blades and marlin spike are from 1.4116 (X45CrMoV15)

The knives in the middle are from left to right:
Most recent model, made by FOX
Dr.Feike
JS
and the oldest, an OFW with carbon steel marlin spike from 1978.

I really want one of those for my collection, just because they're so different. Plus, I like knots, and figure I should have a marline spike.

Someone on this side of the pond makes a nice one, but it's ridiculously expensive (like $250 US) for a production knife. At least one which I would buy "just to have".

Very nice! Thanks for sharing.

I've got an E.J. Coles (Germany) from the early 70's I got while working at Abercrombie & Fitch. That knife traveled quite a bit with me over the years on climbing/camping/backpacking trips all over the lower 48, Canada and Alaska.

Hello,
these knives are not sold in new conditions, sometimes they come up on ebay, have a look for "bordmesser" or google for "bordmesser BUND", here they are, but I payed less http://www.marikasmarkt.de/shop/product_info.php?cPath=116&products_id=228.
I got these for about 10,-€ each, got some really bad ones that I gave away, but most have been in decent shape.
These knives are really rugged, made to last some decades in careless hands of seamen, to do everything but cutting. Every soldier of the "bundesmarine" is still issued with this knife.
The specs you can see here (from page 9 on): http://daten.bwb.org/AG-Bund/TL/Daten/51100001.pdf

Thanks Surfer for bringing in the description and photo from across the pond.

The 'Bunds' look stout and interesting and I was glad to see and hear about them.

Y Sam,

The U.S. Coast Guard was issuing Buck 319 Yachtsman knives to all recruits at one time. That "supply" lets them show up on Ebay pretty often, but they will sell for 2 or 3 $20 bills. Springs are stout and blade is thick. They were made on contract by Camillus and Cami stamped there own copy of the barehead model. FYI 300Bucks.

The oldest are the nickel bolster ended models, older says Made In USA, newest BUCK USA.
The bareheads - oldest has hidden spring pins, single spring, the newest visible pins double springs.
