So how does Rose Damasteel perform ? Which steel is it similar to (ie : 154CM , S30V , M390 etc) ?

I'm interesting in the Gold Class 710-142. Also , are Gold Class BM's fine for EDC ? Or are they strictly collectable safe queens ?

I had a Gold Class 470 in the Damasteel. The steel was average, maybe on par with 154 CM, maybe a slight bit worse.

I think in general, most of the Gold Class knives aren't really worth it unless you're getting the ones that include the steel upgrades.

That's too bad. I'd really prefer something like S90V or M390. Not interested in paying for a decorative blade if it can't perform well.

I have the 710-142 and swapped blades with someone who had a 710DLC-1 which is M390. Got a custom clip that doesn't block the C-Tek, perfect EDC now.

Same exact reason you're unsure about the 710-142. Damasteel doesn't hold a candle to M390, and I wanted a user. Very happy with it now, and I'm not worried so much about the blade. Benchmade still makes M390 blades for the 710. I don't think they'll replace it for me as this voids the warranty, but a $170 710-1401 is better than a $500+ 710-142 if I ever need a new blade.

That's a great idea. Now you have the best of both worlds : the great performance of M390 and the good looks of the C-Tek handle. And that clip looks like it was custom made for it. Very nice.

It absolutely was! I posted for a carved Ti clip that didn't block the light coming through the c-tek and Crowmagnon messaged me. He did it with a 2 day turnaround, highly recommend that guy.

How does the blade replacement work on a knife with damasteel?

One fellow mentioned that blades do sometimes break at the pivot, and that would be a case where the knife is sent in for a blade replacement without the original blade.

Far as I know they just don't replace gold class blades. I mean they are all technically out of production, being limited editions. If it is an obvious manufacture defect, who knows. Benchmade is pretty awesome about taking care of customers, they may try and do something special for you. With normal out of production blades they'll keep spares around from the time they were in production and offer replacements until they run out. I don't know that they make extras for Gold Class.

Is there a list of upcoming Gold Class and limited edition/dealer exclusive BM's ? I quickly checked their site but didn't see anything.

I've always seen Damascus/Damasteel mostly as an aesthetic choice, rather than a performance upgrade. I imagine there may be some exceptions out there.
