Ive been meaning to get some pics posted because I promised Yangdu I would. Please pardon the poor quality, I was trying to wipe raindrops off with one hand and take photos with the other
I got this Rose in a DOTD a little while back, and I was stumped as to how to find a use for such a beautiful piece, crack in the handle notwithstanding. First thing was getting it sharp, and putting an edge on the swedge.
Next, I started looking at lots of old posts from HI forum threads past, and trying to get some ideas on what Id like to do.
So, inspired by the many examples of khuk mods and embellishment posted by the fine members of this forum, I thought Id try my hand at making this knife mine, via some work on the handle (crazy glue and tung oil), and some blade etching. A little cold blue in places, too.
It has been a bit more of a learning experience than I anticipated, but Im fairly pleased with the results. The hamon took on a mystical golden hue, and overall the gray/ silver patina gives Rose that no fear of real use look I was after. Of course, Ill have to classify this as an ongoing project ;D
Thanks from a newb to all you more experienced khukuri-ites for your posts past and present, and thanks especially to Yangdu and the Kamis. Its an honor to be the caretaker of steel that possesses such strong spirit.
