I’ve been meaning to get some pics posted because I promised Yangdu I would. Please pardon the poor quality, I was trying to wipe raindrops off with one hand and take photos with the other:D

I got this Rose in a DOTD a little while back, and I was stumped as to how to find a use for such a beautiful piece, crack in the handle notwithstanding. First thing was getting it sharp, and putting an edge on the swedge.

Next, I started looking at lots of old posts from HI forum threads past, and trying to get some ideas on what I’d like to do.

So, inspired by the many examples of khuk mods and embellishment posted by the fine members of this forum, I thought I’d try my hand at making this knife mine, via some work on the handle (crazy glue and tung oil), and some blade etching. A little cold blue in places, too.

It has been a bit more of a learning experience than I anticipated, but I’m fairly pleased with the results. The hamon took on a mystical golden hue, and overall the gray/ silver patina gives Rose that “no fear of real use” look I was after. Of course, I’ll have to classify this as an ongoing project ;D

Thanks from a newb to all you more experienced khukuri-ites for your posts past and present, and thanks especially to Yangdu and the Kamis. It’s an honor to be the caretaker of steel that possesses such strong spirit.

Wow .. beautiful!

Hawk .. is the scabbard a new one or the original one?

And I really do thank all of the guys who've posted their mods on their khuks- I'm the kind of guy that likes personalization :D

The sheath got a little of the treatment, too; just darkened it with some black dressing mixed with a silicone based treatment, and a little cold blue on the end (chape?)

This is how she looked coming from Yangdu:

So it's a little changed. My apologies to anyone who might think that I've committed a sacrilege, but I'm liking it. ;D

Well 2hawk for what it's worth you have my approval as that's just a damned nice job all the way around!!!!!!!  :D
When I designed the Rose - And the sheath, I might add, I designed and carved a wood model for the Rose and designed and made the model sheath in a completely different way. I had it designed with straight sides with a clip point the same as the knife so as to be able to remove the frog and turn the sheath around to be either a right or left hand model but the sarkis ignored the model sheath and made it their own way.:grumpy:
Over time the kamis have been slipping a bit on the Rose as well because the guard used to be a bit longer on the edge side in order to better protect the fingers. Yours isn't too bad but still a little shorter than the original I have and the other thing they have slipped a bit with is the guards angle but on yours they got it pretty damned good!
One of these days I aim to do something similar to mine except I'll probably blue the whole blade like I did my large Foxy Folly. And maybe, just maybe make the sheath the way I envisioned it so as to make it more useful.:D ;)

Yvsa, I was kinda holding my breath when I saw you posted... (whew!)

My special appreciation for you and your design.

When I tell people the story behind the knife, I like to find your pic/ bio and say, "Here's the man who dreamed of the Rose."

It is really quite impressive to be able to show somebody photos of you, Bura, and Uncle Bill and Yandu and see their reaction as they start to get the feel for the spirit of the blade they're holding.

Priceless. :D

Very nice work, and a wonderful piece to start with. I did my Rose up very much the same way. Looks so good done up like this. Great pics too. I'll give you three    !

Nice pictures, thank you 2hawk

Great job 2hawk, and I really like the pics on the rocks. Very colorful. You make me want to start tinkering with mine now, which is the best compliment you can get. :D

Really nice stuff, and thanks.

Great mods- great photography.

If it needs a name, may I suggest "Storm" for all the handle swirls...
