ROSTFREI means Stainless (RUST-FREE) in German.
I just recently started collecting the 58mm SD Swiss Army Knife (SAK). On the knife blade the word ROSTFREI is stamped into it. But, on some of my same knives this word is not stamped into the blade. Does anyone know why?

I just checked my EDC Vic Recruit, it is stamped "stainless". Too lazy to check my other two but I'll bet my vintage Mauser by Vic say's "rostfrei".

Moving this to the Multi-tool / Multi-Purpose knife forum.
While most of us like SAKs, those who specialize in them and their lore tend to hang out there...

Knives made after about ‘04 won’t have ROSTFREI as the 4th line of the tang stamp, but usually have the SWISS MADE on the second line Instead of SWITZERLAND too.

Most of their knives starting from some time in the ’50s have ROSTFREI somewhere, but not all.

Hope that helps.
