I saw this idea mentioned awhile back, and I wanted to see if anyone else has been hit with my same sickness. I have alot of knives, mostly fixed blades, and instead of giving into the urge to buy something new....and that does hit me often....I thought it would be a good idea to rotate the blades in and out of use. That way I can get passed the urge to buy the new stuff and use what I got. And get some satisfaction and experience using all the different styles of blades and see if there is any real difference in their designs and fuctions. I will never be cured of the urge to have a new one (resistance is futile, but I do try to resist), but at least I can enjoy using different ones and expand my interest into new areas of knife use. So what is all this about again? Do yall rotate your use of knives for fun and different tasks?

Rotating your knives doesn't help. I switch about every day for fun, makes me want more. The sickness continues....

Hording them, and looking at them when I watch late night movies...I need to get olut more often huh? I have to get more use out of them than destroying papers to see if they are still sharp. Seriously, I have used my Becker 9 to help cut up branches to fit into my truck for a trip to the dump. My Condor Hudson bay has also cut back some of the branches along my fence.....backyard fence in suburbs, not a ranch!! I need to get more use out of them when I do go camping, pop-up camping, the smaller ones do get some food prep and making tinder for a fire.

roger that, yeah I'd just carry a different one every few days though it must be different with fixed blades. I don't get a lot of chances to use mine either.

I have all shapes and sizes, but the ones I feel I want to really try are my camp knives in the 7-8 inch range, I have 2 ML Hudson bay knives, one in 1/8 blade thickness at 1 3/4 wide and another in 3/16 thickness, and a large Leuku from Koyote knives, all of which I would love to to try out on unsuspecting branches and the like. Yep, just means I need to get out there more often!!

We may be twins separated at birth! ;)

And yes I do rotate my EDC. Usually about every three days to a week. And no it does not cure the sickness. Just give in...buy another...come to the dark side.:D

I do knife rotations all the time. It's also good therapy when you're on the fence about buying a new knife , so you dig in your stash and find ones you haven't used in a while. You put it to use again , saved on another purchase , and found pleasure in something you already have.

This is why I have many. :)

I rotate mine. I have 6 or 7 in my EDC rotation and I rotate through them. I do this mostly so that all of them will have a chance to get carried and used. Right now I carry each one for a week then switch to the next one.

I've been a watch collector and watch collectors do the same thing, but the difference is that if a watch collector finds that he isn't wearing a watch, he sells it and buys something else. I have a whole collection of fixed blade knives that I bought with no intention of ever using them, so that part is different, but I still want to use my EDC knives because I get the most pleasure out of them by using them.

I still have other knives that I want to buy. I think about how many I have in my rotation and if I bought more would I carry them, and would the new ones take too much carry time away from the ones that I already have? There is no good answer, sometimes your desire can only be settled by buying the new knives. Sometimes using the knives that you have is enough.

This photo is my EDC rotation. I still have interest in a ZT 0560, maybe some more Benchmades, a Spyderco Military, ...

All my knives are users. I don't have a Craftsman rollaway loaded up with safe queens......not that there's anything wrong with that. To justify my keeping a knife, I need to use it and that means rotation.

Personally I find that utilizing one knife for a month severely slows down my want for another knife, and helps better define what I would like in a knife.
