Roto Tiller Vs. Leg

I've heard about some pretty gruesome knife/blade accidents on this forum, and I though I would add one to the mix. Yesterday 4-28-01 we were dispatched to a medical emergency call to help out the FD/EMT's. All that was said was, an individual recieved serious lacerations to his leg from a Roto Tiller. Upon arriving on scene we came across a man who was "one" with this thing. He tried to kick the rear of the Tiller while it was operating, and his shoe lace got stuck on one of the blades. The motion of the blade sucked his entire leg into the machine. If that wasn't enough, several of the blades became entangled in his thigh around the tendons, muscles, flesh and bone. It was a horrible bloody mess. It was so bad infact, we couldn't get the blades out of his leg. The entire machine had to be dissassembled. He was then transported to the ER with the Tiller blades attached to his leg. He needed surgery to remove the blades. Once more, the blades were all rusted. What a terrible way to end the day huh? I guess machines can fight back. I will definately think twice before kicking the old lawn mower the next time it doesn't start.

Ouch. That even hurt just to read that! Hopefully the guy pulled through with no other complications. In the past I've worked in landscaping (mainly mowing) and also was a forklift/Bobcat jockey for a metal fabrication plant, so I am well aware of the dangers such equipment can pose if one isn't careful. No matter how comfy you are at how a machine works and how to operate it, never ever get lax on your common sense. No knife related injury can even come close to the carnage such equipment can deal.

This thread probably needs to be shifted to Community

I think if you added the words, "knife-like" rotors/blades, then maybe it could stay here.
