I was just wondering why the knife blade on my new Wave seems so dull. I think You wouldn't want it to be a great slicer, but the edge seems very rough to the touch. Is there something more to this as the indended utility function of the blade or has anyone else recieved theirs this way also? My SOG powerlock blades came very sharp.

All my Leathermans came super-sharp. Cant you just give it a few strokes on a stone and solve the problem?

maybe strop it.
I've gotten some blades that seemed dull, but after stropping they were razor sharp.

This is probaby a stupid sounding thread, I was just a little surprised if this was how the non serrated blades all came. This is my first Leatherman.

Dont worry about...its a perfectly valid question considering its your first Leatherman. Probably just a fluke that escaped quality control.

Most of my post 2004 LM tools with the 420 steel have come with a bit of a bur on the blade edge. It generally takes a bit of work, but it's no big deal.

While the steel doesn't keep an edge for a super long time, with a little time on a fine stone or even just a little stropping with some polishing compound you can certainly get a hair-popping edge on your LM:thumbup:

My Wave came fairly dull when I got it (circa 2004 or 05), and I never could get it to hold a good edge. When one of the thumb locks broke, I sent it back to LM for repair. It came back from the factory razor sharp. At first, I thought they had just sent me a whole new tool, but from the look of some of the other scratches on it, I pretty sure it was the same one. I think they just replaced the blade, instead of running it thru the machine.

I stropped my Surge and it went from a little questionable to razor sharp...in about 5 strokes per side. I suspect they don't knock the burrs off.
