Hi

new to traditional's. I have a NIT 74 w/ some rough jigging..Its not terrible and only in one spot. Feels smooth in one direction and rough in the other..blade to butt..kind of like shark skin..slivers long enough to be called splinters if pushed or pulled off.

What would be recommended smooth these out..? Sand, wet sand, buff..? Send it to GEC? I dont want to remove too much material or effect the color..or a little as possible ..

Even if I had any photography skills, it would be tough capture in a picture.

Thanks in advance.

Just keep rubbing it with your hands. It will smooth out and feel good soon.

know exactly what you mean- i have the cougar clawed one as well which has a chronic case of roughboneitis.
Im thinking its meant to be like that with the cougar claw but the my pond algae green 74 "old pondy" is smooth as silk.
Pocket time is a good cure.

I would possibly hit it lightly with some 600 or higher grit sandpaper if it's a user. It might lighten the color a bit, so do it at your own risk.

I rubbed mine on a clean, empty strop leather. After that, a little pocket time and it was all good.

"old pondy"..That's funny.

Thanks for the reply's..I did lightly hit it w/ some 600..as stated, a little work/pocket time, should sort it out..I just didnt want to pull any chunks out or compromise the color and or jig pattern..

Thanks again

I have used sandpaper before, to reveal lighter dye, and found the bone can take quite a bit of sanding before lighter color appears. It does lose some texture, which sounds obvious, and in your case its the reason to use it, but is something to monitor. My fingers can instantly feel the difference between my sanded 15 and the others.

Tape the metal before you start

I have grizzly claw bone 73 as well from a few years ago. It came more highly polished.
