Rough pivot after cutting some cardboard

This was an unusual experience with my Sebbie. I have a 2012 large Insingo. It has the washers with holes in them.

I was cutting down a corrugated sheet to size. I cut maybe through a total of 36" of cardboard. Right after, the pivot felt like it had sand in it and the lock bar was sticky.

Adding oil didn't help until I removed the blade assembly and fully cleaned it, the washers, and the lock bar face.

The strange thing is I never really found the culprit.

Do you guys find your Sebbie to be sensitive to contamination? This is the first time I've seen this on a knife and I've cut my fair share of cardboard.

I still very much love the Insingo, but I'm just curious on how others' have experienced this issue, if at all.

My sebenza has solid washers. And no it hasnt happened to me with my small sebenza or any other knife I have.

not an issue but IMO as they're very precise with high tolerances, some dirt, dust, lint may bring them to sound gritty
usually I put some "post it" kind of paper between handles and blade and clean it, most of the times the tweaking helps

happened couple times, I felt something at least
not a defect or issue for me, happens to my slipjoints too

Cardboard is notorious for holding onto dirt and grit. Probably knocked some off while cutting that ended up working into the pivot. I've had it happen on a lot of knives. You can also try blasting out the pivot area with an air compressor or canned air sometimes that will dislodge stuff without having to tear it down.

It probably wasn't in the washers but next to the washers on a CRK knife.

Ok, thanks guys.

The one weak spot is the large washer. A small part is always exposed on the blade stop portion of the blade. I can clearly see the holes in the washer. I guess if just the wrong kind of gunk got in there, it could make the pivot feel gritty.

It just hasn't happened to me before, but all my previous blades had solid washers which were fully covered by the blade and liners.

It's just something I'll have to look out for. No biggie.

Did you check the little ball in the lockbar? I've found that if I get some sand or dust in there it feels like the pivot is gritty. I usually push the lockbar away from the blade a slide my shirt or a towel know there and then pull it out. Usually does tell trick.

Probly something stuck on the detentball or where it rides, 99% of the time you can blow it out with a can of air or just wipe it off the detentball. I doubt just cutting cardboard would get anything in the pivot. Try what Steeladdiction said that just fix her most of the time

putting a post it between the lockface and tang, letting it go between them while you lock works well to remove some gunk

I had this happen once, and it cleared itself after a couple of openings.

I carry my small Insingo in my front pocket with no clip. It does, at times, pick up junk from my pocket and can become gritty when opening. I just blow it out with compressed air and it will get rid of the crud. If not then it is probably time to take it apart and clean everything anyway.
