hi a noobie to this forum ..
would like to know if anyone here has any rough rider knives as i would like to know how well they are made , i had a couple of Case xx knives as was not impressed at all , for the price anyway ,

RR knives are very well made, for the price anyway. I've heard others develop problems such as the scales losing color or the pivot loosening, but I havent experienced it myself yet. Since it was my first and only traditional folder, I cannot compare them to case knives, but I'm hoping to fix that. ;)

I have quite a few....overall they're well worth the price paid.

Certain patterns seem to be made better than others, for example a few of the jumbo sized knives (coke bottle, large hunter) didn't impress me , but the small - large sized patterns are well done.

thats good to know then as i have a small toothpick a canoe and a baby canoe on its way .:D

I have one of their canoe knives in "saw cut" bone, it's a very nice knife

They make nice Barlow too.

Here's a few of mine...all are RR except for the two in the lower right.

The Barlow and Stag Trapper are both winners.

The black pearl stockman is my favorite.

I've bought a few over the last couple of years, and for the most part they're pretty nice knives. Some are definitely better than others. You'll find issues occasionally, for me it's been the grit (polishing rouge) in the joints. Once that's cleaned out and the knife is oiled, they're usually pretty nice.

Case is a better brand, IMO, but I've had issues with two that I've bought in the last two years, each time with scales. With Case, they'll fix it, no questions asked, as long as the knife doesn't look abused. The sellers for RR will usually just send a replacement if something's wrong; at least that's been my experience.

thx - cpr

yes they do look good , is that stockman real MOP .

Yes the stockman and the congress are both mop. The congress even has file work on the back springs.

The large stockman is black lip pearl.

I have several, and I think they are an excellent value. I edc a small trapper and a peanut frequently, and they seem to be well made, useful knives. I bought a grab bag from SMKW, too, and although they were supposedly seconds, I could only find a problem with one of them. At four bucks each, I'll take a carload!

im keeping an eye out for one with abalone scales , for my collection . filework would be good to ,, but not seen any with that yet ,, seen some schrade with filework .

I have several and carry a small gent's whittler as my EDC. They sharpen easy on a hone or strop.

For the price, they are very good knives. I've already lost one and don't really care since it cost me $6.51 delivered. If I'd lost a US-made slippie, I'd be pretty upset.

I know that RR makes Marbles folders and they are exactly the same except for the shield on the scale. They probably make folders for other brands as well.

i have about 20 RR knives. all well put together, attractive and shaving sharp right from the box. they are really good knives, no collector value but excellent users and a huge variety of patterns and handles.
there is a series called "Long Rifle" (i think) that really stand out. roland

I carry a RR Marlin Spike and use it daily to pick rocks out of my new yard...Cute too..........carl

I have several RR knives and like them. Really well made. Polished and put together nicely. The price is right too. I like the Case knives of years ago. I have not used the newer Case stainless steel knives yet. They cost a lot more than the RR's and it depends on what you will be using the knife for. For cutting a few strands of string occasionally, the RR knife would do well. If you intend to use a knife everyday for important jobs knife related, then a Case may be the one you may want? My Case knives are chrome-vanadium steel which will rust if not oiled and kept dry but they do hold a sharp edge for a long time during use. I think you could say you get what you pay for. Just my two cents.

Hi ARRDY,

i have a RR fixed blade bushcraft knife with birdseye maple scales. Its VERY well made, very sharp and has proven itself in the woods over and over again.

well am just adding to my collection of all the different patterns ,, and the likes of Case and queens etc would not be realistic from a price point of view.
but i should be able to get most patterns in RR without breaking the bank .
