Has anyone out there tried out the Rough Rider 748 Stockman with stainless handles? It looks to be a copy of the Buck 303 Cadet (perhaps made in the same plant as the Buck 373?), except for stainless steel one piece handles. Saw one on line and wondered if anyone has tried one out yet before I buy. Thanks.

My first RR was a micarta stockman, still use it a lot and after 4 years of sharpening the blade is still at well over 90% full. I haven't tried the stainless stockman but every RR I have bought has been a very good knife. MUCH better than the small price would indicate. I had had over 1000 pass through my hands.

Best regards

Thanks for your quick responses. Yes, that's the one. I have had some experience with the rough riders a few years back, and the ones I used had very thin blades. I like the Buck 303 for its stout blades for its size, but I have often thought the same set up in the blades but a bit thinner in the handle would be nice for pocket carry. I'm also thinking that the stainless handles would be a good idea on an EDC stock knife, no scales to break if dropped etc.

So I went ahead and bought one, and for the price its not a bad little knife. Blades about as thick as the Buck 373's. Fit and finish up there with the Chinese Bucks but not up to my older (1992)303 (although spring tension better than several recent 303s I have looked at). The underside of the blades behind the kick was left fairly rough but this shouldn't affect function. The handles appear to have been laser etched fairly deeply, which should help conceal scratches on the stainless for a while as long as I don't throw it in my pocket with loose change and keys.
