My experience with them FWIW is they are pretty good starters for the money..
Pros:
- They are fairly inexpensive.
- They are 14" long.
- They have nicely made and looking micarta scales.
- They throw pretty well for how thin and light they are.
- The stainless steel is nice for lower maintenance like rust.
Cons:
- They are fairly inexpensive. Not junk, but you get what you pay for.
- They are quite thin and light for their size, so they will destabilize in flight easier if thrown poorly, or higher winds.
- The micarta scales 'will' loosen and probably fall off, or you'll take them off, reaffix them to try to keep tight, etc..
- They seem to be over-hardened stainless, so hard side hits or bouncers might break them. It's quite common with these.
All in all, not a bad knife for getting into throwing. At like $7.50 or so a piece, you can afford it if one or a couple break, the scales get loose or come off etc.. In the long run, if you stay with the sport, you'll end up getting a higher quality throwing Bowie or similar style, which will be stronger steel, thicker and heavier for more reliable throws and sticks, and little chance if any of bending or breaking. All just my opinion and (short) experience with throwing knives.
I actually own about five of them I think. Three of them have been thrown quite a bit and none has broken on me yet. the scales are loose on four of them, and one is almost off. I just pound it on with wood or a tool if handy.. Here's a couple sticks in my old target from last winter. Good luck with your new Rough Riders!
