Wondering what the opinions are about the quality of these knives. As some may know, I currently research Schrade Sharpfinger knives, production, special orders, customs and copies.

A Rough Ryder branded copy was recently introduced and after briefly searching best to-my-door prices, have one on the way here to coon finger and chicken eye. I've read quite a few reviews of the folders and lockbacks branded RR and they seem to be acceptable to most people for the price.

Anyone here already have one or one of their other fixed blades? Share your opinions if so?

RR2394 Code Red Skinner is the model number and pattern name. Web find photo.

I can share some experience with two different ones.

RR1636. Very soft steel, very thick grind and the sheath is overall very low quality. Pakistan made. Doesn't like to take or keep an edge.

It's a really nice size and design, which is why I picked it up .. it's just not executed well at all.

I also have another one around somewhere. A wee small one, RR1407 that was made in China. It has a stacked leather handle and a Velcro nylon sheath and it's been just fine. About the size of a letter opener. I like it. If you Google "RR1407 knife" it will pop up.

My conclusion on the RR fixed blades is that I would buy another if it was made in China like their folders.

Edit: that one you show looks like it is light-years ahead of the two I have in terms of quality. Maybe they really stepped it up! I might have to order one

Hard to tell much from a web photo, isn’t it? Of course in this case I will be comparing the knife with the originals in fit and finish. It uses a fairly low standard stainless steel and has a coating that can hide a lot of imperfections in the finish surface. Pakistan origin is a surprise. I’m pretty sure these I am looking at are from China. I noted that the mark owner changed the spelling not long ago. “Rider” became “Ryder”. So maybe Mr. Pipes is looking at the overall cost and quality situation with this latest addition.

440A steel, if they stay true.
EDIT:
NOPE! Just looked at the specs. 3CR13MoV.
They do say it is made in China.

If I remember right, my pre-1990 Old Timer Sharp Finger had a mighty thick edge. I may be mistaken, but I think my Sharp Finger had a 1095 blade. I gave that knife away around 1992 or 1993.

Schrade changed the traditional plain grind blade to hollow grind fall of 2001 and for the most part then used stainless though not so marked. This particular copy is also hollow grind.

Briefly looking at listings for the two knife patterns mentioned above, RR1636, RR1407, I see that both are in the under $20 price point, the shallow end of the knife quality pool. Slightly cheaper than the RR2497 but not by much. So I should not expect much from this one when it arrives.

I'm still hoping that I am not the first buyer here of this particular knife and someone with one in hand will respond with their own critique. Meanwhile here are the specs as given by the merchant:

Blackened 7.0" OAL, 3" hollow ground full tang blade. Blade steel is 3Cr13MoV Stainless, Black and red G-10 handle, Model RR2394 Named "Code Red Skinner", Weighs 3.81oz.
