Round knife added to site

Make/finish one and put picture here and on you site .I believe that it is good for your business . . . .

What hardness would you recommend for the aeb-l round knife, JT? I don't heat treat or even use stainless steels for that matter, so I'm not sure which RC to choose from the list that would best fit the knife for its use. Also, how out of flat is the stock generally speaking, just wondering if I should opt for the surface grinding or if it'll be easy enough to clean up for what I have. Thanks

On a round knife for leather I would not hesitate to push the hardness yo the 62-63 range. Other people might have other thoughts but for a zero impact application and being this thin really let’s high hardness shine.

This is a good time to dispel a myth that surface grinding makes things straight and flat. Surface grinding creates a even thickness but because it uses a magnetic chuck it will straighten out most blades that have a bow when you turn the magnet on. The bow is still there once you release the magnetic and sometimes it can make a bow worse if the same amount is not removed form each side. Surface grinding on blades is used to create a even thickness and a smooth nice 220 grit finish that’s ready for other finishing options.

Alright then, 62-63 it is! Went ahead and ordered 1 for now. I was mainly curious about the stock flatness as to whether this aeb-l is more or less even than most on its surface, or "cupped" at all along its width. Too late for surface grinding now though lol

Coming up soon we are going to be closing the plasma cutting for the year. We are booked solid. And soon after that heat treat will be closed for a few weeks in December so we can get caught up before Christmas’s.

Wife has informed me that the last 2 weeks of November and December we will be closed.

We have been going non stop all year and we want to get caught up to enjoy the holidays and the mountain of paperwork January will bring with all the tax stuff lol. We are also putting togather another steel order as we have just about burned through the 120lbs of aebl we bought. next order will have even more as well as some 1075 and 1085. There carbon steels are very nice stuff to work with. Also looking at bringing in some 1095 and 5160 sheets and some of that 26c3 stuff that people are loving. We did hire our first employ who starts thus Sunday. It’s a part time gig tight now and we look forward to being able to push even more work out the door. We just ordered another tempering oven as well so that should help the backlog there.

its a rocking steel. Been carrying it edc last few months. Very pleased. I'm thinking it'll make a good roundknife too.
