Hi

I just Got my knife grinded by a shop. when I Got it back the point was rounded as if some of the tip broke off.

It is not a lot but the shape of the tip has changed.

I wonder if this often happens or I Should go somewhere Else next time

Here are some photos before and after:

Thanks in advance

Yes, I can see the difference. I would assume that knife was sharpened by machine, and machines have no mercy for small errors.
That is a very nice knife. I would never trust my $400 Japanese style knife to a grinder.
I personally would recommend you get into sharpening yourself with Japanese Waterstones. And eventually you will be able to correct that tip. Otherwise:

Do not send another blade there to be sharpened!
Ask the method of sharpening before you do business with someone else.
Let them know what you are sending in and what you expect to return.

That sucks... I agree with Ken, probably somebody who sharpens with a belt grinder or worse a bench grinder. There are people that can do a good job on a belt grinder, but for a Japanese knife like that one, you're much better off sharpening by hand on stones.

Thank you for your replies!
I specifically opted for the most qualified i could find which is why I am dissapointed.
Thry specialize in quality knives and even teach courses in wetstone grinding. I am beginning to use my own wetstones but did not want to mess with this one. But anyway thanks for the replies!

That is from a belt and they left the tip on too long. Tip work on a belt is tricky. It is far too easy to drag it too far into the belt and what you see is the result.
