Looking at an ESEE-3 and trying to decide between the Modified Pommel (rounded) vs Standard Pommel (pointed but not sharpened).

I was hoping people could speak to their experiences using the pommel to "hammerfist" things. Do you find that one version serves you better than the other? I've heard it said the pointed pommel can break glass, so this would seem to be an area of difference. But not sure I would make much use of being able to break glass. I was thinking more in line with survival, general camping and tool use, maybe a self-defense scenario.

Any experience one way or the other you care to share? It seems like the pointed pommel could generate more impact strength by focusing the strike into the impact point more. But maybe there are advantages to a rounded pommel I'm not aware of? What do you all recommend? Does anyone have any real world use cases they are willing to share?

:) A glass breaker and / or SD type pommel is more for some emergency situation than an everyday need .

Might be a life saver , if needed , otherwise just rides along . ;)

I like a non-pointy pommel on my camping knives because it makes a better hammer for things like tent stakes.

I have the one with pointed unsharpened pommel. It can be useful to break something. For example it's excellent glass breaker if you ever need to do that in emergency. It can theoretically be used as a weapon too, but that wasn't primary purpose here.
In any case it's a feature. And I'll rather have an extra feature than not have it.

Just my opinion.
