Sup dudes. I've gotten into knives reaaally quick and I need to take a break before I literally go broke. I've purchased all the knives I have within the last 2 months :X I'm gonna attempt to round off my EDC collection so that I have 6 modern folders, and 6 traditional folders. This is what it's gonna look like when it's done (Only need 3 more, waiting til Christmas so I don't have to buy them ):

Modern Folders
1. Benchmade Mini Griptilian 556 (Excellent all around EDC)
2. SOG Mini Vulcan (This is like a Sebenza to me)
3. Sanrenmu 710 (Ridiculously good value)
4. Boker Trance (This one has grown on me a lot)
5. Kershaw Junkyard Dog I (Waiting til Christmas for this one)
6. Spyderco Delica 4 (Trying my very hardest to wait for Christmas lol)

Traditional Folders
1. Rough Rider 893 (Pretty impressed for the price)
2. Buck 55 (This sucker is pure class)
3. Case Sodbuster Jr. (Learned to love it)
4. Victorinox Soldier (Solid!!!!)
5. Douk Douk Small (Eagerly awaiting it's arrival)
6. Opinel No. 6 (Gonna have my little bro get me this for xmas)

As you can tell I love great value and variety. I don't have many fixed blades because I never really use them. Anyways, what do you think of my selection? Think I can make it to Christmas without buying anymore blades? lol wish me luck...

Looks like a really solid selection. I wish I would have made a list like that before I bought so many freakin knives, lol!

Thanks! Well, I definitely made a couple of mistakes before I sat down and did some research. This is what I bought before that quality list:

-2x Smith & Wesson crappy $12 tactical folders...gave them both away to knifeless friends
-a $40 CRKT M16-13Z - still trying to sell it on Craigslist
-a TERRIBLE $80 Cutco folder my dad got me (sorry dad!) - still trying to sell
-a $20 MTech fixed blade which I'm keeping cuz it actually seems alright

You have the Buck 55 - now you need the venerable 110 - a great way to spend ~$30 at WallyWorld. BTW, the Kershaw 'Zing!' - another WallyWorld buy - really isn't 'that' special. Mine needs a new home! Now, their 'Needs Work', JYDII, they are keepers.

Stainz

I still carry my M16-13Z. It's a quick, rugged knife. What don't you like about it?

Well I got sand in the pivot and I don't wana take it apart. Also I hate the blade steel and the fact that the thumbstuds arent even functional. And its over the legal size limit so I cant carry it anyways.

My wally world doesn't have any Buck, its a pretty bad knife selection there. The 110 is just too bulky for me I think, and over my legal limit as well. I would go with a Leek for another classic to add to my selection, but assisted opening is illegal in WI. So many great options thrown out the window. I think I might take a JYD I over the Zing though, looks real nice and it has a 3" blade. Thanks for the suggestion!

Yeah I had some Cutco "bad language" guy try to sell me a cutco folder...The problem is I handed him my 912 Benchmade and he still thought cutco was better.....they must brainwash their people. Those folders are like 420/440 stainless, undoubtedly D2 tool steel is much superior and also 90%+ of the stuff they sell door to door isn't worth buying.

Lol I worked for Cutco for a very short while...couldn't stand it. However, they did do an excellent job of convincing me that their knives were the ultimate (Before I even owned any pocket knives/knew anything about knives). But if someone whipped out a Benchmade 912 I would undoubtedly be impressed.

Dude, slow it down! You'll stumble into the welfare line at that pace! Then again, I won't be far behind you :D

I think that you've got a very well-rounded group of knives there. Unfortunately, you haven't gotten to know any of them very well by buying them so fast. Part of the illness is to truly think that you've found "the one" and then a month later get your stomach to hit the floor when you see a new knife that "I just gotta have." You're taking the fun out of it. Slow down.

And, yes, get a Buck 110.

I agree, that's why I'm not going to buy anymore, I'll just wait for Christmas and get some as gifts. Let the bonding process begin :)

How come?

Because they're ridiculously expensive...I don't need a "bomb proof" folder for my purposes. The knives I've chosen will satisfy my cutting needs easily, for a fraction of the cost. I would probably be fine with only a few of the knives I've chosen for the rest of my life. I guess I can't honestly comment on their quality because I've never handled them in real life, but I simply cannot justify spending that much money on a single knife...besides, variety is the spice of life.

used a can of compressed air you get at the office supply store. might work for ya.

*shrugs*

The way I see it, you've bought ~10, sub $100 dollar knives over the course of a month, with more on the way. You've just started collecting and already own a pile of middling to low quality knives.

Like a lot of people, you'll eventually realize that its better to have a couple high quality knives than a drawer full of junk. Just trying to save you a few steps since you seem to be fast tracking the whole collecting experience anyhow.

Just something to consider. Save your money. Buy quality, buy something worth owning. ;)

Well I appreciate the insight, you may be right I'll probably get to buying higher end knives sooner or later. For now, I'm pretty happy with my blades and their performance.
