So, bear with me, i'm pretty knew to knives etc.
I've recently starting collecting and EDC'ing, and i've got myself a couple of spyderco's. I live in the UK so to me, only things that are EDC are really useful, so sub 3 inch, non locking blades. Scotland as well no less so, knife-crime central. Knives are fairly stigmatized in "civilized" company around these parts.
I got myself a drop point UKPK to start with, which is gorgeous, totally fell in love with it, but man if it isn't scary looking to your average coworker. It's also fairly "big" as well and despite being sub three inches, looks overly large for every day warehouse/office worker EDC. So it stayed in my pocket and was never used at work, because i was just too self conscious about the comments i was getting.
Decided to swap that out and get the friendliest looking knife I could find (above a SAK), and that was the spyderco pingo. That thing looks like a toy bread-knife with it's blade shape. So unoffensive and friendly. That has caused no comments or stray looks at all. Fantastic steel as well i've found so far. Brilliant...
But it's not a OHO! And thumb studs and thumb bars look ugly on it. I missed using the thumb hole of the UKPK. So I had an idea.
What about the spyderco squeak? It's very similar in size to the Pingo, but it's OHO. Ah...but It's got a distinctly pointy end to it however! Even though it is still fairly small and "non-stabby" looking.
So, my idea...What if I was to round off the tip of the knife, give it a kind of a sheepsfoot end, and resulting in a really friendly, stubby, one handed opening, cute little, sharp as hell, every day carry.
Is this doable/advisable? If so, how cheaply could one achieve decent results. I'm imagining a grinder of some sort would be ideal but, say, if i was patient with a vice and a metal file then some wet-dry paper for finishing, could i get there?
Below is a quicky photoshop of the sort of thing I mean. Above is stock, below is what i envision. Just a "softening" of the tip.
Let me know what you think. Also hello. First post
