Man, it looked like he wasn't even trying, like he didn't care enough to throw a punch. It wasn't like Johnson was better than him. When Roy decided to move, he made Johnson miss easily. When Roy decided to throw, he hit Johnson easily. I got the feeling after the 2nd round we might see another "No mas" fight in boxing.

It looks like it might be time for one of the all time greats to retire.

Just saw that, something must be wrong here, he is not that old, and he got hit an awful lot. He used to pull those shots. I think he is too small now, he looked real thin and his arms just did not have the bulk they used to. Shame, he was one of the best.

That fight was hard to watch. Jones is one of my heros. It did seem like he just didn't care. By the 6th round I started thinking maybe Roy is hurt. Maybe he has a concussion. Maybe he isn't entirely shure what is going on around him. I have been a boxer, I have been hit and had things get a bit hazy. I almost cried when the fight ended. I kept holding out hope, maybe Roy is waiting, and is going to end this fight in a hurry, Maybe he is doing this as a joke just to see what people are saying about him, then he is going to surprise everyone and win the fight in one round. Jones has been that unbelieveable in the past. He wasn't really even getting hit. He just stood there, he didn't move anymore than he had too, and he rarely threw a punch. He was doing so little to win the fight, and his corner was so calm, I thought they must know something I dont. Then the knockout came and I was in shock. The punch didn't even seem like it landed very clean. The guy didn't seem to have much on any of his punches. It was a sad day for boxing. I hope Roy is OK.

P.S. The thought kept going through my head maybe Roy was drugged. If he was really that slow and had that little stamina there was no way he should have been allowed to get in the ring. I have never seen that poor of a performance by a healthy fighter.

I agree, was not easy to see! yea, I think his time has come. Paul

Drugged, I thought that same thought, but then I thought maybe his music is taking his training time away, but they said he trained hard, when his head bounced on the canvas, chills went all over my body :( ,

Will he ever come back ? I noticed he did not move around like he used to, just stood. Do you all remember in this fight when he got hit one time really good, he staggered but never went down, they said he was hurt but he went to his corner soon after, maybe this started the ball rolling ?

What bothers me is if he retires, it will be on two knock outs in a row, kind of unusual don't you think ? Especially for a champion like him at this age............

I don't know the guy, I'm not really that heavily into boxing, but is it possible somebody paid him a lot of money not to try too hard?

My husband and I went to Las Vegas to watch the Jones vs. Tarver match. If it hadn't been for a few of the preceding shows it would've been a complete wash. One of the matches went for quite a few rounds before one of the guys suddenly dropped for virtually no apparent reason. We wondered what happened until we saw Don King jump into the ring after the fight. :D Anyhow, if I recall correctly Jones lasted one minute and 41 seconds in that fight. We went with Frank Murphy who met up there with a bunch of his NFL buddies. Some of them were apparently friends with Jones. They had a big after fight party planned and everything. They were devastated when he went down so fast. :D Before the match they kept telling me how they talked to Jones before the fight, and he was angry and ready to annihilate Tarver. HA!

Just now got through watching this Roy Jones Jr. fight, and it was tough to watch. For whatever reason, Roy thought that he could come back after the guy tired out. But, the guy was in good shape, and didn't seem like he was getting tired anytime soon. Even if he wasn't a big puncher. At light heavyweight, if you allow anybody to repeatedly punch you like that, you're asking for trouble. Bottom line is; you simply cannot allow somebody to beat on you like that; eventually a big punch will connect. Roy needs to retire, before he ends up like Tommy Hearns(one of my personal favorites) or Ray Leonard.

Roy has had a pretty good career and has had his moments. One of his successes was his boxing style. Very unorthodox ! The vast majority of his opponents had never seen or experienced his unorthodox style and weren’t unable to control it. Hell, hard to spar against a style that only one possesses. That. . .topped with his speed. . .he was hard to touch.

The series of KO’s: I believe that his ego got the best of him and he thought he was indestructible.

Then BAM ! ! ! He was on the receiving end of his first arse whoopin’. . .err. . . knock out.

I also believe that the first fight that he got knocked out in. . .messed with Roy's mind. . .and he hasn't recovered.

Nor will he.

If he crawls back in the ring and is knocked out. . .he’ll become a laughing-stock !

Time for Roy to retire.

Tough for Roy. Hes been my fave for a long time but its obviouse that he needs to step down before he realy gets hurt. Its my opinion that Roys last couple of fights were he has been knocked out are also in part to his big weight fluctuations over the last few years. Im not making excuses for the man but I think that all the weight gain, muscle mass gain, weight loss and muscle mass loss has taken a major toll on his body. Remember he went up and down in weight to fight more challenging fights.
Hey Roy,Take over Georges job on HBO and enjoy life!Peace,Doug..........

chefboy, I think you are right on. Had he done the weight gain and loss in his twenties, no problem. Recover time as you get older, gets longer. His weak coming down and has a tough one with Tarver. Then in Tarver 2, looks a heck of a lot better and walks into one and gets knocked out. He lost his confidence after that one. I think he got a little scared. Realized he was human afterall and wasn't as committed to this last fight as he talked up. He looked lethargic, weak and just not there. If Roy does fight again, he will have to stop taking shots. Now that everyone has seen Roy get knocked out by a known weak puncher, he will be in trouble.

It's time to retire. There is no shame in it. Personally, I thought he should have retired after the first Tarver fight. Let everyone say, what if. He would have retired with the title. Oh well, that's boxing. It's safe to say we won't see a fighter like him for a while.

It was fun when he was winning.
It wasn't fun after Tarver KO'd him.
I think it was just one more payday before he quit.
Even though he quit before he got in the ring.
At least he didn't wimp out & take a knee.
And...
If I yelled it at the TV once, I've yelled it a thousand times...
"Keep your left up"
