Hi,

I'd like to know if there's still work from Royal Kami Bura for sale ?

Thanks,

Frank.M

Last I heard, he has health issues that prevent him from making any more knives, but he was still helping at times with oversight of the kamis' work, and his former helper/apprentice is now making khukuris (I forget the kami's name).

Bura's knives are now only available second-hand.

Hi,

Thanks for the answer, but I'll reformulate my question ... Is there somebody out there that is willing to sell a kukri made by Royal Kami Bura to me ?

I believe that Lachhu Kami was Bura's apprentice. Perhaps others can confirm or correct this?

In any case, Lachhu is currently making blades for HI and he does excellent work. I believe he's the kami who makes all or most of the ASTK model, and he does other models as well.

I suggest that you send an email to Yangdu. She can tell you if the above is correct and what blades might be available. There are lots of models and variations in length and weight that are not listed on the HI web site, so an email to Yangdu is most likely to give you the information you want.

You should mention in your email what kind of use you plan for your khukuri. Different models are best for different purposes, and your size and physical fitness level plays a role in how heavy a blade would be right for you. If you plan a lot of camping and hard use for the blade that's different than one that will hang on your wall as a piece of functional art.

Yes, Lachhu learned from Bura. Here's a post from about two years ago, which means that he's been working at Birgorkha for over 12 years.

Lachhu Kami made this spectacular knife. His mark, Trishul, is on the blade
of every knife he makes. He has been working for Birgorkha and perfecting
his craft for more than 10 years.

In the "good old days," he worked as Bura Master's Kami helper. The Master
Kami trained him very well and now he makes an outstanding knife for HI's
forumites...

yeah all the new guys are as good as bura ever was, because you gotta remember most of them learned under him, especially after his first condition where he was working but with several apprentices.

Bura's can be found on ebay, and being sold by other members on these forums, but that is the only way to get one

I have an older Bura made Everest Katana (99-00) and its so smooth you can barely see the hammer marks.

I also have a Rajkumar made Tarwar thats every bit as well made as the Bura blade.
