Hi folks,

A second set of the 206 steak knives found me recently, and I’d like to please call on the collective experience of the forum for some assistance.

The first set is below, in the oft-seen wood box:

This second set came in a less-fancy box, with the knives sporting the later markings [sans script] and laminated birch wood handles. I‘ve never seen this style of box; can anyone shed light on the approximate date of manufacture ? Any other info on these later sets?
Thanks!

I know nothing about either box, but I really like that top set. I felt a definite surge of steak knife envy when I saw the top set.

David Martin used to post on these cutlery sets..bet you'll find in search forum some information if you look hard enough.

I saw several of his posts on the Buck cutlery stuff, very informative - thanks!

It’s the later set that I’m having trouble dating.

Off to look at digital catalogs !

ya already combed through bcci archives of catalogs and such or youre gonna go do that?

Sorry I can’t help. I’ve got the four piece set. Those knives lay flat and come in a burgundy, velour covered box with gold hardware and a cardboard otter sleeve

I've never seen this set. Perhaps we can approximate with a few clues. The first catalog years for a 107 with a wood handle is 1985. The micarta handles had 3 pins, not 2. The 1992 4 piece set has the BUCK/USA horizontally with no date code. The Box reminds me of the Kalinga box used until 1985 in style. My best guess is a late 80's custom shop or limited run for someone.

I was right there with you on the Kalinga box.
The Windsor set‘s vinyl wrap is a bit more brown and relieved than the Kalinga stuff. The pattern on the Kalinga is a bit less knobby, as well as as touch more ruddy/burnt umber colored.

Just went through the catalogs.

The 206 set is listed, in the 1980 catalog with the walnut box, for $100…

In the 1981 catalog, it’s $120 !

The 206 then disappears until 1990, when it surfaces as a 4-knife set.

I‘m stumped.
