side behind the tang almost looks like it could be a stop pin.
Other half could be for a fob or lanyard.

Lanyard attachment possibly. It never touches the tang so not a stop pin? I cannt find it mentioned on SMKW or CKW or any retailer

It acts as a stop pin for the secondary blade, and could be used to attach a fob or lanyard.
Correction: On closer examination it does not act as a stop pin, the end of the spring is cut to extend under the pin. I guess we're stuck with lanyard/fob attachment point.
