I’ve been really craving a RR Reserve knife recently. I love my regular RR knives and am extremely curious as to the “upgrade”. Thus, what are your thoughts? Are they worth it? If not, why?

Additionally, what are some of your favorites?

Thanks all!

I don’t have any of the reserves but there is lots of good info in this thread.

I'm curious. Sometimes I see Rough Rider and sometimes Rough Ryder. Which is correct?
Both are correct. For specific knives It depends on when it was made. I  think they changed the spelling in 2017 or 2028.
Both are correct. SMKW changed the spelling at one point.
Didn't they start out with "RYder", change to "RIder" then in the late 20-teens (quote) "{R}return to our roots..." (end quote) by changing the spelling back to the "y" spelling, if I remember the release I read at the time correctly. (possibly to avoid ... confusion? ... law suits? ... with Teddy's group?) I'm pretty sure someone posted the news release about the name change in the Rough Rider and Related thread, when the change to "Y" spelling took place.

The older Rough RIder knives boxes give a short history of Teddy's group. (at least my circa 2013/2014 Stoneworx box does)
Later "I" spelling brown and orange boxes have "For more than 25 years, the Rough Rider brand followed the tradition of Teddy Roosevelt. We hand pick the very best materials from every corner of the world to make the very best product. Anything less just wouldn't be a Rough Rider." on the side of the boxes.
The later "Y" spelling boxes I have don't mention Teddy or his group at all (the Classic Carbon, for one) or have the same blurb as the above "I" spelling Rough Rider box, with the spelling changed to "Ryder".

The Stoneworx blurb ends with "... They became his Rough Riders. In the same tradition of Teddy Roosevelt, we hand pick the best materials from every corner of the world to build the best product." (followed by their web address)

I don't have any of the early pre-2009 knives or boxes.

Thank you.

I have both, the Reserve models are a step up in materials and fit and finish. My regular Rough Ryders have been hit or miss, some with blade play, some with blade rap, losing shields, etc. most are good. I really don’t have anything bad to say about the couple of reserve models I own

I have all the Rough Ryder Reserves. My favorites are the Barlow, the Kayak, the Nomad Folding Hunter, and the Hippo Toe.
