RR Spike Hawks

So I started making RR spike hawks (new to smithing). I’ve Forge welded 1095 into the bit of one. They throw great! My question is what are some suggestions on the next progression from where I am into axe/hawk making? What steel should I look for and what’s a good next project?

4140 is a relatively easy steel to work with and makes a good tool, hawk, hammer, etc.
