RR Stockman kit?

I will. I actually bought it for my nephew but I know it is out of his and his Dad's skill sets for now. As for me I need a few tools I don't currently own.
I will say although the bolsters are rough the pieces all look solid. I need to get the trapper kit as well if I am to buy a vise etc.
This will be a nice primer for rebuilding broken and highly used old slipjoints.
Will post pics when I do.

I've been curious about those, and so has one of the other leaders in our Scout Troop.

I have the stockman kit and I also included one in a giveaway a while back. I haven't put it together yet. I'll be interested in reading about your experience.

I didn't remember who got it! LOL! I'm expecting lots of tips from the both of you.

It was a lot harder than I thought. The best tip I have to give is use epoxy that bonds it together well. First time I tried with some I had lying around it dried up and the parts came off.

I have put together RR stockman kit. I've upgraded the scales to snake wood, put swedges on the blades and also a simple shield. It was fun and quiet good user. Blades snaps, spring is firm and no side play to the blades. Here are some photos, they are not so good.

Mike, That's cool. I didn't know you could get a kit like that until this thread. That would be a fun project and it would give a great story to go with the knife. "Yeah, I made it or at least put it together myself."

Very nice, Mike. I think that photo may actually be the reason that I bought the kit. Do you any of you guys have tips for assembling the blades on the springs? I just pieced them together quickly to check it out and it seems difficult to get the blades on the springs.

From reading my included instructions it sounds like the kn ife is roughed out but you will still need a drill, a vise and some tools to assemble. Also the bolsters are in very rough condition and will need a buffing wheel eventually or a ton of hand sanding.
Can't wait to work on mine but alas I am missing some needed tools.

That looks great mike. Your scales are much better than the kit and the shield is a very nice touch. What did you use to cut the recess for it? Was it hard to get the two blades to fit together on the same side? Thanks.

Thanks for your kind words, I was abroad and came back today. I'll try to answer the questions. To assemble the blades and the springs I drilled holes on piece of wood in the place of the pins as of the metal scales then I stuck the pins in the wood and assemble the knife. It was not easy but eventually I succeeded, I think I used a screwdriver to lift the spring of the 2 blades. You need to have some basic tools as Billym mentioned, also the bolsters must be polished and the blades as well, as they come totally unsharpened.

Mike, Was it really difficult to get the springs and blades fitted? I cannot bend the spring enough to get both blades installed. Do I need to pry the spring up to fit the blade in? You mention using a screw driver.

Bill , I used the screwdriver as a lever to lift the springs. This is the hardest part on this kit building, but not impossible. I only succeeded after making the pins construction in a piece of wood as I described. Good luck.
