My E1 is great. I carry it most days and definitely any time I go out at night. My M2 would be too big to carry daily in my pocket. The E1 is bright enough for anything you might unexpectedly encounter. If you knew you were going to need a light a night, like while camping for instance, a 6V light would probably be better, but you could more than get away with just the E1.
I would say to definitely get your hands on one Clay. I have not heard of anyone who does not like it. If you really think it is not quite bright enough after getting your hands on one, then just make do with it until Feb. or March and wait for the E2 - then you can carry either one depending on need and size preference.
In my opinion though, the E1 is fantastic. It really helps for around-the-house chores at night, or in dark corners because it provides the trademark SureFire spotless beam. The E1 is far more useful than the AA Mini-Mag IMO, even when the Mini-Mag has the Nexstar Xenons. A flawless beam really makes a flashlight enormously more useful IMO.
Also, I think the 90 minute runtime is legitimate on the E1. I have used mine all the time for about a month or so and it is still as bright as it was new. I switched out the battery and replaced it with a brand new 123A and noticed no difference. Plus, when it comes time for battery replacement, you only need one 123A.
Let's hope that the E2 has a 90 minute runtime too. That would be more even incredible than its dimunutive size, especially if it maintained the 6V 65 Lumen output of the other lights.
