I like the ESEE 6 but I'm not sure if I'll like the choil and the handle. I was about to get the BK 2 but just wanted something longer and not as thick and heavy. Than I found the MK 2 witch I like for the blade style and handle ..this would be for my #1 blade for camping/hiking/bushcraft and survival training...would that choil and thinner blade of the ESEE 6 help/hurt? What do you guys think?

It is the RSK Mk2, not Mk12...it has been unofficially been dubbed the BK12.
Either knife would serve you well. I'll be back in a bit with some side by side pics.

Sorry about the lighting difference - the flash fired on the second picture.

You'll notice that both knives are manufactured by Rowen (Esee). Both are comparable in price, unless you choose a "knife only" option on the Esee.
The Esee is is slightly longer overall, and has a slightly longer blade (due to the choil). The blade thickness is the same on both knives., the MK2 is a little heavier (less than an ounce).
The Esee 6 sheath is better; though I like the fact that the Mk2 sheath is molle compatible. One can purchase a molle back for the Esee 6 sheath.

The Esee 6 handle is more slim than the Becker handled Mk2; but the shaping isn't great. I find it rather uncomfortable without gloves. Alternatively, there is a G10 scale option that can be purchased. The Becker handles on the Mk2 are quite comfortable, but some feel they are too large/bulky. There are a variety of replacement scales available, including some that are a litlle less thick.

hard to add to that other than opinion, and we all know what they say about those....

However, for what its worth, out of my 300+ knives, the BK12 has had a coveted spot in my top 10 since it's arrival....for what that's worth.

Thanks for the great comparison HH. This photo here would sell it for me. The shaping of the stock scales would be the selling point for me between these two.

If they are too wide get the TKC G10 (no work needed) or stock micarta and sand the inside of the slabs down a touch.

If you plan on using the TKC scales on the RSK MK2, you will need to drill a new hole in the handle due to the design of the "weight system". The factory Ka-bar micarta will work fine though.

Great point!

Couldnt you alternately just remove the weights?

Nope, the screw locations on the g10 slabs lands right where the steel is that houses the weight system/plugs.
