Im looking for a good chopper, is this the Ontario RTAK 2 a good blade? Thanks for the input/help.

very good chopper for the cash.... do you wear large gloves because the handle is quite thick.
It is a good slasher as well for the lighter stuff with the point of balance and grind.
sheath is ok, I really like mine but am considering grinding the handle down a little now that it is not so minty.

i would wait for the newer version from Rat Cutlery the Junglass. it should have better ergonomics and much better quality.

I like the Junglass, but just went to website and msrp is about $280. Thats alot more than the RTAK.

I have seen the street price on the Junglas at $168 so far (pre-order). Once they are out they may be cheaper.

I find the Rtak2 and the sheath the perfect bugout combo for the truck.
Ok, the plastic insert in the sheath could be better, but, you can pack a ton of crap in there if you use your imagination.
For the money, its a steal.

Even came in handy the other day. Friggin branch on the way to a job, swerve around it on a narrow road to not scratch the truck.
Had enough of it the other day, no more swerving or scratching :)

The Knife Connection will be selling them for about $168.

I'd go for the Junglas over the RTAK 2. I've never held an Ontario RTAK and although designed by the same people (Jeff Randall and Mike Perrin at RAT Cutlery, now known as ESEE) the actual manufacturing of their current RAT Cutlery/ESEE is now done by Rowen Mfg, not Ontario. I have compared some of the Ontario RATs: RAT 3, RAT 4 RAT 5 to the Rowen manufactured RAT Cutlery RC-3, RC-4 and RC-6 and the Rowen stuff is way nicer IMO. The blade coating seems more durable, the fit and finish of the scales is much better and most importantly the heat treat process is supposed to be better.
I'd spend my $$ on the Junglas. Actually I probably will be when they are released, along with one of the Lite Machetes.

I just pre-orderd a Junglas, its a little more $ but looks and sounds like its a much better blade. Thanks everyone for there input! One last thing, can anyone post a pic of the sheath, what does it look like? thanks again.

You can use a heat gun to mold the plastic insert for better retention.

or hold it over a candle or fire or stove burner so on and so forth... the point is to apply some heat to it. why the hell would i go out and buy a "heat" gun to mod my sheath? use your heads people. stop copying people so much, its called problem solving skill. every man needs it

and from what i seen on the knifetests of ontario rtak its a though big knife. very nice. supposedly rat cutlery uses a differential heat treat. decent sheaths and lifetime warrenty.
