Well, I've had a RTAK II for a while now, and yesterday I finally went camping and had a chance to use it. First of all I love the knife, although the sheath it comes with is garbage as most people know. I used the knife to source fire wood for the night and thats about it. I had put a pretty nice edge on it with my stones before we left for the campsite. I was so impressed at how well it ate through wood. I will admit I severely abused the knife. I don't think I could be any harder on the knife unless I tried cutting something harder than wood. I rolled the edge in a big way, it rolled far beyond the edge actually. Pretty upset about that. Now it's time to try and fix this thing with what I have laying around for my folders. I will be using an XX course DMT slab to try and make the knife functional. Wish me luck!

Err, before you do that I'd be calling up the warranty dept, that really doesn't look right.

Thanks for the tip. It's a bit late for that though. I really didn't expect that to happen at all either. I did a lot of research before buying the RTAK II, and from what I heard it's a tank. I hit some knots, some hard, dead, dry knots. I'm about %85 done with it right now, if it gives me trouble again I will let them know. I'm not the type to baby equipment that isn't meant to be babied, so if there is a heat treat problem with this blade it will be destroyed. I will let you good folks know what happens, and I will have pics up soon of my results.

Took me a little over 3 hours of pretty intense rubbing to get this bad boy back into shape, so to say the least yea I wanted a belt sander real bad. It kinda looks cool actually. I will try and get a better camera so I can post some pictures that actually show the blade well. Sorry for the crappy phone pics! This forum forces me to spend so much money...and I love it.

Doesn't look great in the pictures, but I can assure you it's screaming sharp. Won't quite pass the hanging hair test, but it's not far off. I think the O'l RTAK is back in the fight, and with a bit more character now.The video is garbage. I have no idea why the vid speeds up at the end. I'm still new to this thing, any tips would be appreciated. As you can see the edge is smooth the length of the blade.

That would be the logical thing to do, but if I had an axe then I would need to carry such a large knife. Also, I wouldn't get to work on my sharpening skills nearly as much. Thank you for the guidance though!

It's never too late. All Ontario knives have a limited lifetime warranty.Whatever that really means

Well the knife is back in good shape now, if I keep having massive edge rolling problems like that one I will contact them and see what can be done. Trying to give it the benefit of the doubt. I'm a pretty strong guy, and I was really seeing what this blade could do since it was my first time getting a chance to thump on it. In about a week I will have another chance to work with the RTAK, I will let you guys know how it goes.

Also in the video it looks like that blade is bent, but that's just the edge messing with the light. It's straight as can be.
