Forgive somebody with little practical experience with either, but in practical terms what's the real difference between the two. Both are currently made of 5160 steel, both at 1/4" thick, both are more or less the same in overall length, weight and darn close in basic appearance. So what exactly separates the two of them?

The junglas isn't 5160. It 1095 with an awesome rowen heat treat. The handle is much lore comfortable to me on the junglas. Over all it just has a better fit and finish and better warranty. It really comes down to how much you want to spend. Both great knives but ill take the junglas anyday.

I have a Junglas, not in front of me at the moment, but I believe it is 3/16 thick not 1/4 which is fine with me . I think 1/4 " on a knife that size might be a little much.

I bought an RTAK II sight unseen. That boxy grip is not shaped for my hand, and I have big hands. I spent some quality time with a belt sander and turned the handle into something I can live with. Not great, but tolerable.

I have no experience with the Junglas.

The big separation is the ESEE No Questions Warranty. If it breaks, they WILL replace it! Even if it is operators error.

Rtak II- codura sheath, big blocky handle, finger choil, I'm lead to believe the warranty and CS are good.

Junglas- much better sheath, no-matter-what warranty (from what I've seen, this only matters if you plan on intentionally abusing/torturing the knife to failure) superior fit and finish, slimmer handle, spot on HT, excellent QC and CS.

I only have the RTAK II. Almost everyone I've heard from agrees that the handle needs some shaping. If I broke it I would imagine Ontario would replace it, I haven't heard of them not honoring their warranty (also haven't heard of too many OKC knives breaking, just a rare few). On my RTAK II, the weight is pretty neutral between the handle and blade. I would think a junglas with it's smaller handle would be a bit more weighted towards the blade. Especially if it's skeletonized under the scales. (The RTAK II is not)

The RTAK II's I've seen are around $85-100 shipped, add to that another $50-60 for a decent kydex sheath and you can be getting darn close to what an Junglas costs with a good sheath included ($180-200)
