Hello all! I've just been introduced to Newt Livesay's knives and I'm curious about the RTAK. Is the handle swell comfortable? How does it perform? Is is a machette or a chopper or a little of both? Any and all opinions and/or experience with the RTAK would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

There are only two types of people; those who understand this, and those who think they do.

I've held it for a while, but never took a swing at anything with it. It's a pretty hefty puppy- it looks as if it will do about anything you ask it to. I do know that it comes highly recommended.

Johan, due to the popularity of this blade, and other Livesay work, lead times are getting longer for acquiring one.

Maybe Newt will post up the lastest availability.

BTW: The large handle swell is intentional since it's designed to work in less-than-desirable places. The Micarta coupled with the swell holds firm when wet or muddy.

There's more than a few soldiers in South America carrying them. It also works good for Drug Agents chopping dope. It looks like Latin America may soon become Newt's biggest market for large blades.

As far as its designed intent, it's a cross over between a machete and large trail knife....yes, it will chop like a maniac.

I think that the RTAK is very comfortable to use. It's a great chopper, very sturdy, and the handle doesn't have any corners or points to tear up your hand. If Newt doesn't have one on hand, you might check with one of his dealers. Hammerhead knives is on line and here on the forum.

Just FYI, Newt has posted recently and mentioned that he recently received an order for 4600 knives!! That' s right, 4600 knives. Better get yours soon...
