Guys I am sorry if I am asking something that has been discussed already, but I am new to this forum. As a member of a couple of survival forums and a active outdoorsman I am familiar with the ontario-rat problems and the differences in the quality. I own rc-3 and 4 but am interested in a rtak sized rc for use when I don't want to pack my hatchet. I have heard rumors on other forums but it would be nice to know whether to wait for the real thing or settle for the ontario. Thanks for the info......drew

:D Welcome to BladeForums, it sounds like (and looks like judging by the 1095hc in your name ;) ) you have come to the right place

Welcome to the RAT group, Yes the RAT Cutlery version is in the works,no date has been set on release as of yet.

Those "rumors" if it is on a forum I know about may have been posted by me, I talked about it elsewhere. Anywho, welcome to the forums.

I was being serious.
Will the TAK be available around the same time the RTAKII is?

If it is super-secret squirrel stuff, I understand!:D

What about the RAT AR-15 and MiniGun?

sorry if I hit a nerve, I know ya'll probably get bugged alot about stuff like this. I just did not want to throw money at an inferior product just for the real deal to come out later......

Welcome to the forums drew. I don't think you hit a nerve, I think Jeff, aka R.A.T. (one of the co-owners of RAT Cutlery, was just being sarcastic in response to brian's post above his about the golok. I haven't met Jeff in person yet, but after scanning through all the pages in this sub-forum and reading quite a few of Jeff's posts I think it's safe to say that Jeff has a fun and sarcastic streak to him. I think it goes without saying that he's very appreciative of your interest in their products.

I was originally gonna but an RTAK II also (I've had one on my fleabay account watched list for a year or two) but I think that if I do get one it'll be one of these new RAT versions. If I need a big knife before then I'll make do with my RC-6.

Anyhow, take care and stick around. I think you'll like it here! It's a great group of guys and gals and I think the level of ethics and morals that RAT Cutlery lives by is what attracts this fine group of forumites here. I know it did me.

Yeah, what he said.

No disrespect to your RC-6, but the RTAK is huge; the blade is pretty close to 12" long. My Ontario version is really a small machete. Sort of a cross between a Bowie knife and a machete. Great design, simple, and robust. I use mine in place of a machete--it's been camping and canoeing on a couple trips and is really versatile. I'd love to see a slightly bigger version, say 14-16" for a little more machete-like performance.

Hey Rotte,
yeah I know it's a much bigger blade but if/when I buy it, if I use it more than a couple time a year it'll be a lot. I live in a condo in the city and don't get out into the wilderness, etc where I'd be able to use it. I'll put it this way, I haven't even used my Izula, RC-4 or RC-6 yet and I've had them since April! Blasphemy I know!

If/when I get the new RC RTAK and even the RAT Pack RC-3 it'll be more just to have them than anything else. I'm not as fortunate as a lot of you guys (at least at the moment) in being able to go out into the wilderness as much as I'd like too. Too busy with work and photography right now.

Hey, Toronto is a great city--I was up that way 2 years ago--you're lucky in so many ways. But get out of the city and get those knives workin'!

Another RTAK thought: this seems like it would be a good knife to use for building snow shelters. The big blade would be pretty good at cutting snow blocks and could be used as an expedient excavating tool. I gotta test that theory this winter....

Yeah it is a great city, I love it here but believe me I can't wait to get out into the bush to put these blades to use! There are lots of areas around the city, it's just for me to get a free weekend to get out there.
I'm actually planning to do one or two model shoots out near the Niagara Escarpment on the Bruce Trail and want to take out my RCs and have the girls do a few shots with the different blades. If I like them I'll email them to Jeff, maybe he'll be able to use them for something!
