Rubbed off metal??

Hi I recently acquired a second-hand Cold Steel "Recon 1" tanto blade. I noticed that the area below the thumbstud where the letters "ON" of "RECON 1" have been rubbed off and are now less visible than the other letters due to the frequent use of the thumbstud to open; hence the rubbing off.

Anyone has any idea of how to make it more visible again?? Advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

So sorry moderators. Have to get used to the many numerous sections in this giant forum.

DaveH, what I meant was that the "RECON 1" is embossed/drilled into the knife. The metal has 'smootherned' out. So the "ON" letters which are engraved are fading off; not the paint. Must I dig into the metal or hollow the letters and make it deeper?

Wow ! That is one well used Recon. I have had one for going on three years I think and I cant imagine how many times it would have to be opened to wear off some of the scribing.
I think your just going to have to live with it the way it is , if you try to "redo" the letters it might end up looking worse than before.
However if your handy with a Dremel tool and the correct bit , it could work out ok.
Good luck.

No. You can't deepen the letters with a Dremel. It will look like crap. A very good hand engraver could "chase" the letters, but it would not be worth it. Leave it alone.
