I had a thread about my buying a Rubicon. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=352368&highlight=Rubicon

Well, I went and got one and so far it has been great. We put 250 miles on roads that varied from gravel to unused Jeep trails. The Rubi performed great and my wife felt alot more secure in some really gnarly downhills we did. That is, more secure than in our Pilot that really is not made for severe OTR travel.

I went with a hard top due to 100 plus temps and Utah dust. I can always get a soft top or just leave the H/T home. We were not uncomfortable on Saturday in 104 heat and the air off out in the desert.

Any thing I should spend my last remaining dollars on? You folks are always a big help.LOL

Congrats!

Edit: Oh, check out getting some Husky Liners for your Jeep. We have them in our JGC, and think they are the best thing since sliced bread (yes, I know, we are easily amused).

I wheel w/ a group of people who drive everything from Chevy's to Jeeps. There are a bunch of Rubicons in the group. The Rubi guys also have a nice web site. Check 'em out. Colorado Rubicons

Congratulations on the Rubicon. I looked hard at one but ended up with a Ford Ranger FX4 solely because a pick up was more practical for me (I really like my Ranger, its not like I'm sorry I got it!)

You probably already know, but check out
The Ranger Station. In case you don't.

Hi Win!

The only mod I've done to my Wrangler is upgrade the tires to BF Goodrich all terrain T/A KO's, and replace the whippy metal antenna with a stubby rubber one. Eventually that metal antenna will loosen, especially if it is constantly getting bent around by branches.

Have fun!

Since he has a Rubicon, he already has Goodyear MT/Rs. I suspect there isn't any reason to change them out.

I just bought a Jeep Wrangler. Barebones with no luxuries save for power steering. I got a good deal cause almost no one in New York City knows how to, or wants to drive a manual transmission.

I want to put a fording kit, a jerry can bracket and maybe a roof rack on it, but that's about it... oh yeah, and a pirate's flag on the VHF antenna.

Thanks for the advise, folks. The Rubi comes with some beefy, MT/Rs, no need to change those until I go bigger. Greg, good thought on the antenna, it was already starting to annoy me.

So far I'm going with a Wilderness rear bumper/tire carrier. This allows for add ons like can carriers and a rack.MM, check out the Wilderness roof rack will hold cans and a spare tire, Summit Racing has the best prices. A CB radio, Cobra 75. Custom nerf bars to protect the rockers. Later will come a Warn front bumper with winch.

There are quite few forums dedicated to Wranglers, Rubicons and general 4x4, they help you spend money faster than BF.
