Ruck vs AK

Anyone have one of each? I would like to see some side by side pics...maybe a compare and contrast kind of deal? If not...has anyone handled them side by side? Or even handled both of them at different times? I love the AK...curious as to if I need to pick up a Ruck too....got to work it in to the Busse aquisition plan if I do. Hehe.

Mmmmmmmm. Thank you so much. That is exactly what I was looking for.

Now...as someone with one of each, do you think I need one? Any thoughts on Ruck vs AK in general? Are they similarly balanced? How do the blade widths compare?

two very different blades, i think.

the ruck seems to me to be more of a "bush blade", that is, for light brush and such.

the ak is ALL SWORD! the balance points, respectively, seem pretty similar.

Morimotom, I really like those rigs. Are they Okus and did you do the add ons? Both feel great and the ruck is a little more forward heavy with thinner scales. Both are pretty quick and lively in the hand. The ruck is easier to carry for me because of the shorter profile. If you can snag one I would and if you don't like it just throw it up on the exchange. I would do it now as opposed to later as the prices seemed to have inflated much in the past 6 months.
 
So the Ruck is more machete-like, (is machetey a real word?)?

Edit:: That's exactly why I'm asking now Murdok...it seems like once something goes out of production you have about a year to pick it up before the price inflation just gets really obscene. I guess if I need to I can try and trade an AK for one. I do have a few spares.

The blade thickness is the same on each (3/16", I believe), but the Ruck's micarta handles are thinner slabs. LOL, do we really need any of these knives?? ...Of course!! ;) :D:D Personally I prefer the Ruck overall, but the AK-47 is one seriously cool sword as well. :thumbup:

ak mics at .197", ruck at .177". though my ruck has been stripped and convexed. dont recall the factory thickness.

the big difference is in scale thickness.

my ak measures 1.06" thick. the ruck is only .68".

Somehwat. Like a 3/6" thick machete with a slimmer width but the 8" handle helps balance things out a little.

Sounds like I'm going to have to get one....wonder how I'm going to explain it to the wife. Don't suppose you happen to remember when it was produced and what it retailed for? I took a break from the forums when I had my first daughter...looking at all that steel and not being able to buy anything was too painful....the AK's siren call dragged me back in, and somehow I totally missed the Ruck.

i like the balance on my ruck better. I'm certainly no expert, but the ak feels just a little butt heavy for my taste.

The Ruck is probably going to keep climbing... Not many were released to us in the form of a military overrun 1 time Ganza event... I believe it was $467

The AK was, IIRC, $587.
 
I think it was around $500.00 but I could be wrong. Maybe someone else knows for sure.

Between the two I generally slightly prefer the Ruck because of its more compact size. It is also much easier for me to wield the Ruck one handed. Bigger guys may prefer the AK47 because they seem to make it look like Ruck based on proportions.
 
700.00 is a REALLY REALLY good price if you can find one for that much. Lately I've seen $750.00-$800.00. However I think you got a decent deal in the exchange a few minutes ago.
