Well, since I have three ruckis now I decided to chop down the handle on one of them (cut it halfway between the 3rd and 4th tubes). I have to say...cutting through the SR101 steel was harder than I expected (everything is I suppose). It laughed at my hacksaw blades...which was my first choice to prevent heating issues. Ended up resorting to the power cutters... I was impressed to say the least...so much so that I didn't throw away the end piece that was cut off...I convexed one side to turn it into a tool of sorts. The modified rucki reduced the weight by about 5 oz or so if I recall correctly (I'll have to confirm that if someone is really interested), and obviously changed the point of balance to several inches fwd of the choil. I'm glad I did it though...it makes me more willing to pack it while jungle stompin...little lighter, little shorter, little easier to carry overall. The last excursion I took with it the handle kept hitting braches that I was ducking under (it was strapped to the pack).

I guess the Rhino was so impressed with it that he overlooked the fact that he tried to link his computer pictures to this board, directly. :p

Sweet so you did take it too the jungle!? How did it perform as a machete?

It did outstanding at hacking off 1-3 diameter tree limbs/trunks and it felt good strapped to my pack, sucked at tall grasses (as expected), I didn't do any batoning or larger limbs/trunks (next time). Bare hands get rubbed raw quick...gloves are a must for anything over 30 min. Also, the more tired you get, the more casual one gets with their one handed swings...came a little to close to burying it into my left leg a few times (MUST BE THOUGHTFUL OF THIS). I couldn't take a camera on that trip...but I will on my next jungle stompin trip. There's a ton of wild invasive hogs running around the jungle...every now and then someone gets charged by one. The rucki, with its extra pointy tip, was a good companion for a little extra peace of mind while using the facilities in the middle of the night...

Looks good, I am sure it will slay some wild hog. Do you prefer the mod or non-mod for one hand swing. I find the Rucki I have to be fairly well weighted and apt at 1 hand movements, although I have no real world experience outside of the comforts of home (still pretty cold here-waiting till summer). Love this blade.

I haven't used the mod yet...honestly, I think the regular length makes it perfectly balanced at the choil, which makes it a little more useful for variety, not to mention the use of two hands if desired. The non mod works fine one handed unless you are swinging at something close... I did the mod to make it more pack friendly...and it feels like it will work good...well see.

Sweet mod! Id love to see something like the rucki with the ASH or Fusion handle and a guard.

Thanks, Yes, that would be cool...or at least a flared end (like the waki), or waisted handle. I REALLY REALLY want a Rodent Tanto....a Rucki with a shorter handle and about a 10-12" blade maybe. After I chopped the handle down, I found myself wishing the blade was just a wee bit shorter...I might actually do that since I've already drank the kool aid...but that would be more work and time than I have right now...chopping the handle is quick and easy with immediate gratification
