Well, since I have three ruckis now I decided to chop down the handle on one of them (cut it halfway between the 3rd and 4th tubes). I have to say...cutting through the SR101 steel was harder than I expected (everything is I suppose). It laughed at my hacksaw blades...which was my first choice to prevent heating issues. Ended up resorting to the power cutters... I was impressed to say the least...so much so that I didn't throw away the end piece that was cut off...I convexed one side to turn it into a tool of sorts. The modified rucki reduced the weight by about 5 oz or so if I recall correctly (I'll have to confirm that if someone is really interested), and obviously changed the point of balance to several inches fwd of the choil. I'm glad I did it though...it makes me more willing to pack it while jungle stompin...little lighter, little shorter, little easier to carry overall. The last excursion I took with it the handle kept hitting braches that I was ducking under (it was strapped to the pack).
